    Accessible hunting land

    Kia ora team,

My name’s Devon and I’m based in the Waikato, around the Hamilton/Cambridge/Te Awamutu area, and I’m really keen to get into deer hunting.

I’ve got my own rifle and some gear, and I’ve been doing as much research and prep as I can, but I’m running into a bit of a barrier finding accessible locations. I live with a physical disability that means I can’t walk very far, so I’m hoping to connect with others who might know of (or own) land in the area where access is manageable — or even have ideas for good spots where a quad, side-by-side, or vehicle can get fairly close to where I’d need to be.

I’d love any advice or leads, and I’m more than happy to help out where I can, learn the ropes, and show full respect for the land, the animals, and any access that’s offered.

Thanks heaps in advance — looking forward to getting involved and learning from the community!

    Cheers,
    Devon

Welcome along Devon, there will be some good mate on here that will be able to point you in the right direction.

Another option could be if there are any hunting safaris outfits near you that could help out with a cull animal.

If you moved south, plenty of rivers to drive up and shoot from bottom

Not sure if your aware and don't know if you have Facebook, much as I don't like it.

There is a facebook group called hunting cripples NZ which might be useful for you as well as being on here.

    Welcome along here

Hunting from Piro Piro flats in the Pureoras would work.
It's deep into the hunting block and there are a lot of old forestry roads you can explore down.

Years ago there was a guy from the Naki that hunted from the Link Road huts in Pureora Forest in a hand propelled wheel chair, he only hunted the roads and don't know if he got any deer or what the hell he would do with it if he did.

Can't help with deer, but a lot of the King Country blocks have goats, some have pigs.
Not too far from Cambridge either.

If you’ve got access to a quad the 42 Traverse is always an option.
