Shot a few out of houtu a few years back, access and leaving your car on the side of the road there was always a bit of a worry, the numbers are up and down a lot. One time we were there we saw a great big mob, next time hardly anything.

Allot of Russell Forest is closed due to Kauri die back. Not even sure if there are goats in Puketi, allot of pigs in there 20 years ago when I lived on the boundary, used to catch them in the dairy heard in the morning. Tangihua is probably a safe bet, I'm picking it will be amazing in a few years with the amount of pine trees getting planted around it, the goats will be out of control and such a big area they will be hard to thin out.

Have not hunted Houto forest but I have hunted the forestry block to the east.
Definitely was goats coming in from the doc land to graze under the pines.
First sign of danger and they bolted for the DOC land. (well some of them anyway as they did not all make it)
