    DOC Hunting Overlay Removed

On the DOC mapping website "DOC Maps" there always used to be an option to overlay the open hunting areas. This option has now been removed; I have emailed DOC to find out what is going on but no reply.

This makes it a lot harder to find spots to hunt on public land. Am I being paranoid or do you think this is intentional?

Always be aware, I know of a couple of areas that show as open hunting areas in national parks bit are actually paddocked farmlans. One area was a long walk in before i discovered this and it wasnt apparent on aerial or satellite imagery. Dont take it on face value that an area is legitimate based on map overlay data.

I just use this one: https://koordinates.com/layer/8611-d...-permit-areas/
You can export to Google earth from there too.

Does your position show on those maps like a gps does or is it just as a reference?

The topo map app is great that the gps has been relegated as the back up. The app as all who use it are aware, shows your position via the in built gps (activate on the side bar by tapping the satellite icon). I found it very accurate and when you move so does the blue dot. The hunting overlays keeps you legal. An app that all hunters need. But be aware the need for a plb is very real.

so the topo50 app includes a layer with doc public hunting areas? does it distinguish between normal public hunting areas and permit only public areas (molesworth, greenstone etc)?
