    Douglas scoring

Anyone have the NZDA Handbook? Can't seem to find where to get it.
Few conflicting bits of info about where to measure some of the measurements. Have people saying beam is between Brow and Bez and others saying Bez and Trez.
Spread being widest point to widest point other saying widest point on main beam.
How the back tine is measured etc.

Used to be good info on the other forum but that's long gone now.

Bez n trey and width at the widest, easiest way is to put it against the corner wall and measure the other side as the widest.

If you are an NZDA member, you can buy one through the national office or sign yourself up for the next Level One measuring seminar and learn it correctly. If not, a member known to you should be able to get it for you.

I am a member will give them a ring today. Couldn't find it on the app or website that it was available. Will have a look into the course.

North Cant had a seminar late last year. There's one coming up for Nelson Marlborough soon that you could probably sign up for.
They don't happen very often, so pay to be in.

You get the handbook when you do the course , reds are probably the hardest to measure when they have 3 or more on top and working out inners / outers / back tines etc. and where to measure from

If someone could post up a score sheet it would be easy enough to follow

I've got a score sheet there's no guideline on how points bases are determined, where measurements start from or anything for spread, span beams measurements. All those things can widely change scores.

Correct, if you don't know the correct method of measure then the score will only be an estimate.
The book will give you a guidance for a better shot at it.
Good luck, be keen to see how you get on.

for in House its fine to get the gist of the score, or to score ya own heads - as long as you measure each one the same way

if the number creeps up into the trophy bracket, then its worth getting someone legit to score it- this also indicates just how far off your scoring method is-- often a few

the technicalities in some of the douglas score methods can make for grey water to unexperienced an often a couple extra "douglasses" here or there

yeah righto, certainly is hands on.

so the other method is alot easier an gives a score to the whole animal is the SCI....... moreso how they score elk in america etc- total inches of tine, plus a spread etc

just to throw a cat in with the pidgeons as im sure the Douglas is still held in high regard in kiwi
