unless you leave it unattended and bugger off sight seeing . same with at friends place...unless you leave it unattended its still in your possession.
I discussed this with the vettor at my renewal last year, if you're asleep the firearm is considered unattended.

So there must be at least 2 of you on an overnighter and one must must be awake at all times. Gets sillier by the day.

I think it is to prevent people keeping a firearm under the bed!

    Thats cool @Allizdog

Re Sleeping I though a cable though the action and though the bed frame (or something fixed and solid) was acceptable.
Mid 2022 son was given his licence based on 2 eye bolts in to timber in the back of the wardrobe and a cable and padlock.
No rifle present but he had to show the ability to secure one.

    Storage legislation: https://www.legislation.govt.nz/regu...DLM169122.html
Because of clause 19 (5) this guidance document has legal effect: https://www.firearmssafetyauthority....e-guidance.pdf

That guidance document is the only place which specifically details when firearms must be locked away. The wording is the firearm " is not under the immediate and personal supervision of the holder or some other holder of a firearms licence".
Up to you to make interpretation of that.
