You just need to trawl through YouTube if you want to find places to hunt. Ex military types seem to be quite explicit which makes it easy to figure out. Its ruined a few good spots, one being "Snee Road".

My old school values is that you should never ask someone where they hunt or where they got a deer. But its fine for hunters to volunteer the information if they wish.

Restraint is the better part of dignity. Don't justify getting even. Do not do unto others as they do unto you if it will cause harm.

Hell yes. Hundreds of them. Will cost you a few coins in trophy fees but it is simply NO problem at all any more. Minimal effort is also assured, out ute window if you like.

I know if there is a spot that is pretty easy to get to I will tell people the long way through the swamp and over the three hills that look like a dingo and then left at the out of place pine. I have never seen the three hills that look like a dingo or the out of place pine, but hey, hopefully they find something Nothing beats enthusiasm

I figure it doesn't really matter, at least on DOC estate. If you put the effort in to going out then good on you. The wankers around poaching on the same land under thermals at night can fuck right off though.

And there is a shit load of that going on all over the country. Often with unlicensed or forbidden individuals I would hazard a guess.

I’m always happy to share spots for tahr and similar animals down south. Being from Wellington, I remember how daunting it felt trying to plan a trip down there—especially not knowing where to even begin. On my very first trip, I was lucky enough to bump into a local farmer who took the time to suggest a few spots worth checking out. If it hadn’t been for that chance encounter, I probably wouldn’t have found my first bull, and honestly, I might not have developed the passion I now have for hunting them.

Since then, I’ve helped a few mates from Wellington get onto their first tahr, and they’re now just as hooked. It’s become my favourite species to chase, and I get a real buzz out of helping others—whether they’re new to the game or experienced hunters who just want to experience the Southern Alps or see these incredible animals up close. That’s what it’s all about for me now—sharing the experience and keeping the stoke alive.

there are some on here that struggled as noobs and just needed some help to get that first one under the belt to get that real sense of what to be looking listening sniffing for,
and have since become very good hunters.....

ET and I wouldn't have nearly as much success, or fun, if you hadn't shown him a few good spots. We owe you for it.

i ran into two different groups of hunters last week complaining about the same youtuber giving away campsites and spots in the Aorangis. I stayed there this time two years ago and there was an empty car park, this year i bumped into two different parties and there was eight vehicles there on a rainy Monday in June.

He just started selling hunting related gear through his Youtube channel, you'd think he wanted a bit of goodwill from the hunting community.

Mate he’s well known for that sort of stuff. He got into the Aorangis through being introduced to a few possies by other guys. It’s a long convoluted story. However those of us who hunt there know the bush hunting is superb. He’s not a bush hunters arse. He can only hunt the open stuff. BOB my fucking arse. Pack of queer cunts.

I felt a bit cagey when people were posting the details about lake sumner as I'm in the noob boat with lots invested ( time, km, sweat, ect) and little return. The spot was told to me to get on an area with good opportunities. I figure, the numbers are good oit there, you guys keep saying it.

I just have to keep revising what ive learned. Past and future pointers appreciated.

Id still prefer people didnt reveal spots, but i think that my deficit mindset.

I'm old school. Hunting is simply that hunting.
To hunt out and work out where they are oneself.
I don't want to be told where to go, or a hot spot or location.
I'll tell someone a general area eg Urewera, Kaimanawa etc but that's it.
It always puzzles me when people ask about specific information on a spot.
Half the fun of hunting a new location is the unknown and uncertainty.
Its an adventure trying to work out best routes by trial and error and making mistakes and generally trying to piece everything together ones self.
It makes any success that much more enjoyable and rewarding.
Especially if its a one off hunt like a ballot block or a once in a lifetime trip.
Being told before hand, would for me take away some of the mystery and excitement.
Doesn't matter if success isn't achieved, as seeing new country and experiencing the newness of it all makes the hunt challenging and rewarding enough not a kill.
So many people want to be practically led to an animal or the GPS coordinates of where they may see some. That's not hunting, that's gathering.
I don't care if a trip to a new spot doesn't reward me with a kill. If its too my liking and peaks my curiosity then I know success will eventually follow. Maybe not straight away, but if you follow basic fundamentals of hunting and piece together learnings from subsequent trips then success will eventually be a give in. If its a one time only trip and I didn't kill anything then no loss. Hunting is like that sometimes otherwise it would be called shooting.
It seems modern day "Hunters" are more about instant gratification and social media likes than the processes involved to make a successful hunt.
I think I've mentioned in a previous post Im a bit of a weirdo. I just like the process of working out a hunting location myself rather than having somebody else's hard work given to me. It defeats the definition of the word hunting in my opinion.
PS Everybody does what they do how they do it. I don't expect others to do it my way, its just the way I roll. That way any success is all mine and not attributed to others. That would dilute the experience for me.
And before anyone asks, yes I have taken new people hunting and yes have helped others achieve initial success.

I had one forum member have a go at me about naming his 'spot', when his original post was about his car getting broken into at same spot.
A well known public spot on public land with a history of break ins.

    Bell....................end.
