Mentioning hunting areas should be limited to the region or general area in the open forum.
Ban posts asking about specific spots or where to hunt a species.
Allow asking but keep specific spot advice to PMs only.
Specific limited entry areas / ballot blocks shouldn't be mentioned to limit targeted pressure.
Encourage specific help in the areas limited by ballots to be done via PM.
Tell all. Post exactly where the animals are to the blade of grass.
I don't know why this is even a "Poll"
If some one asks about a spot and you don't wish to tell them, that's fine. Your choice.
Should someone want to tell them... that's their prerogative.
6 pages of pouring out our personal morals is immaterial at the end of it all. We all have dozens of spots we rotate our trips around, and if one of those is enquired about in a thread, bad luck really. That's life.
Those of us fortunate enough to be experienced hunters, could make better use of our time by teaching the long forgotten "bush Lore's" That would make our hot spots more impact resistant to a little extra human pressure.
To those worried about people saying "mine". People aren't saying no one else can hunt there. They are just using mine as a term for a spot they hunt don't dig too deep into it and make it into something it isn't. Sure there are some locals around the country that do treat areas as if they have the sole rights to it but that's not the discussion being had.
I have found "my spots" by researching via google maps, talking to people, and then exploring blocks often times taking multiple attempts to find access or determine whether it's somewhere I would return. I am almost certainly not the first to hunt these spots and have often seen people in them. We usually share a comradery about getting into the areas and help each other out talk tactics and head our separate ways or sometimes hunt together. I've met a few of my best hunting mates this way. That comradery is gone to me once I know they found access "the easy way". Shit i walked into one of my favourite spots the worst possible way a dozen times before I helped a guy by letting him know where I'd dugout a campsite and he let me know there was a cut trail out as thanks.
This thread was purely about specific areas being named on the internet which has a much larger effect on areas than mentioning to a mate or a new hunter in private.
Everyone upset the people don't like spots being talked about should really resist from complaining about anything at all. It's just an opinion and people are allowed to not be stoked by certain practices. Some of us don't like WARO, some AATH, some 1080, some long range shooting. The list goes on. No body likes everything that occurs. The idea of the thread was to get peoples general opinions.
It seems most agree we should be helping new hunters, some just don't think that should be done by posting on the internet.
Spot I visited today..I have a "lookout" across gully to small clearing. I thought I was rather cleaver finding good shooting platform on old overturned stump.used it for years, felt really chuffed I had discovered this great sniping spot,so good no one had found it before....then one day I looked up. Old rusty metal frame bolted high up in tree, looks like it's been there since the seventies.... Ho hum,I'm not so clever after all. Spoken to a few folks over the years and haven't found who put it up there. Never been game to climb up.lol

I've thought about this subject a bit, and my thoughts are that if i put a trip report up or post a photo that identifies where I've been and someone else decides to go there then good luck to them . Where i hunt is all public land usually the Ruahines and also usually requires a bit of effort to get there and again usually well known spots anyway.
Never had a problem letting people know where I had seen animals whether i had got anything or not . If i wasn't good enough to get them then maybe someone else was . A lot of the time it easy if it was like code swapping- if i was pig hunting & saw a venison then it was easy to let a mate who was only after deer know where there was maybe a easy deer for them and vice a versa
I think people have got slightly confused. The post isn't about dont tell anyone it was dont post it on the internet ie tell everyone.
Looking at poll results and wording..... The thought comes to mind... It is strongly suggested when posting about a hunting area you be a bit vague about exactly where you are to prevent galloping hoards charging in your footsteps....might be a better way to say it??? Perhaps???

IT'S a part of a Hunting and Shooting forum to me , and I don't mean down to the exact gp co/oud but general area type thing . Especially young or new hunters .
Like in Southland I would I would say Longwoods for a start , 23,008 hectares , plenty of public access and more deer for decades , just for one place .If deer numbers
are not keeped in cheek we all know what will happen and who will be crying then ?
Did you read the thread? No ones saying don't talk general areas. They are saying don't post specific spots on the internet. As for being a part of a hunting and shooting forum. This is one but one many others this exact thing is banned.
Deer numbers aren't high because people don't know where they are high. A good spots not one with high numbers usually it's typically one that is overlooked and has unique species opportunities or better age class animals (due to less hunters).
Maybe somewhere that doesn't get repeatedly 1080'd like some do up this way.
Happy Jack.
Well, I ll share this last Sunday successful spot:
Good luck.
