Tory channel is the fastest flowing piece of ocean anywhere in NZ waters...famous for missing tourists a year or two back. I BELIEVE it's in Marlborough sounds.

Its the channel that the ferries take to get into and out of Picton.

Oaro River is worth a look up by Kaikoura. About an hour walk along the river through private land to start. Once you hit public land, there are always goats either on river bed or walking along the steep faces either side. Shot a couple at about 5m the other day, went well in the slow cooker.
