Guiding and Outfitting in New Zealand

Can anyone on here explain the process with me on how to become a licensed guide outfitter in New Zealand? Within a few years i would like to network in an outfit in New Zealand and do business with them. I could bring in alot of clientele. I am currently doing this with a guy in Africa that owns concessions in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Any info will help out.

Apart from having a firearms license we dont license guides/outfitters.

You will need to be a member of the NZ Hunting Guides Association or have a DOC concession to hunt on public land in NZ. By being a member of the NZHGA you will get a concession and other benefits.
Not something I would recommend. I would just tie in with an outfit in NZ if I was you, and take a cut on all clients you provide. Reno is going on as we speak and there are a few NZ guiding outfits there now that are looking to do the same sort of thing.

    Technically there's none.

If one was to operate as a guide in a business sense a detailed health and safety policy would be needed, and if guiding on public land a concession with DoC would be needed.

Some operators become accredited by the NZ Professional Guiding Association. They run a fairly good course, and provide a certificate upon completion. And you get a concession through them to guide on public land.

I am surprised it is not more regulated.

    Edit: what he said ^

I'm guessing you would also need to have a work Visa if you were going to guide here?

I am still yet to do the approved cse but I will be attending it with an open mind. I have been hunting for 38 yrs and still learn new stuff all the time.

Like all courses I have done in my life I am sure I will learn something, to take away from it.

Besides, courses valuable or not are what we have to do these days to be relevant in the working world.

Did some riot and combat first aid training the other day with someone half my age as the instructor and whom has never been in the police or military. I actually enjoyed it.

Do you know the costs involved?

Was thinking to start up a part time thing as I have a few old clients from EU who keeps asking about hunting down here.
They getting quoted 4,500- 6000 for sika and 10-16 K NZ for thar and chamois package. All DOC land not including chopper.
Someone is working with a healthy profit margin.

Nothing is tough about having a 70 lb bow and looking like an uncoordinated praying mantis while trying to draw it back.

Happy to assist. We operate guided walks / tramps in Fiordland / Stewart Island and have several keen hunting guides on the team.

Do any meat savage requirements exist in New Zealand? If not i would still recommend the guides claim the meat most clients never take the meat home. So therefore if the hunter does not claim the meat i want my guides to harvest the meat for themselves.
