Only one brown spot - size may vary?

As kids all our rifles were mauser action styles where we would chamber the round point at ground hold the trigger and test fire then it was just up down with the bolt and bang
Yep. And the old three oh was cock on close, so forward to lock when ready. As an aside, one of the most useless safeties I ever came across was on an Anschultz .22 Magnum. A brand new one. Would fire with a firm squeeze. (I didn't find out the hard way. I like to check these things.)

I‘m not to comment on firearms safety practices and half cock in specific as a typical Kiwis‘ solution.
Here in Germany we mostly hunt from stands and usually it is safe and practical to have a round in the spout and then
engage the safety. When we climb up and down from stands we empty the spout beforehand though.

Hand cocked rifles become more and more popular over here. In that regard we like our Blasers.
Very safe to use. Would be a perfect bush hunting option. Riflle can be cocked in a second and ready to fire.
Hand cocking options are available for M98 style rifles too.

When hunting with mates spout is empty unless I‘m activly hunting.

Best safety feature sits on your top shelf!

Not surprised when Blaser owners tell me they like manual cocking...

Allgood, a mate recently bought a brand new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV from a major Mitsi dealer.. Two weeks later the gearbox shat itself. Hang on to your 2 bricks....

It’s the best and worst safety feature, depends how you use it.

If your bolt can get knocked open accidentally, then it can surely be knocked fully closed too....

Half cock is not fool proof.
    Neither is a safety.

I prefer the bolt open, and my hand in the way of the bolt closing, (not all rifles are suitable to carry this way)
I reckon this is safer than the other ways, but i am pretty cautious.

Have you fully understood hand cocking machanism/feature?
Do you have a rifle with that feature?

I agree - when I was doing bush hunting every fine day working I always carried my rifle on half cock and watched where my hand was - if one was not ready to shoot very quickly then one would have seen a lot of deer disappearing - I despair seeing hunters carrying rifle on sling they will miss out all to often in bush country - when I had my semi auto 308 well had no choice but carry it on safety -no deer was going to stick around while one cocked that - if bush hunting carry rifle like ya mean to use it

I thought you meant the safety feature on my top shelf, (on my shoulders) between my ears. If we are talking about that, it is a feature I don’t fully understand.
