    Im generally a welcoming type of dood as well but im sitting on the fence a little with regards to visitors coming and staying in our remoter or country areas and not enhancing that in some way or in some cases actually making it worse , hiring a guide would be a good start or some sort of visitor hunting/fishing licence , competing with us kiwis for ballots , hunting over the roar period the list could go on , so what got me thinking last year I took a young Swedish bloke under my wing after his stuff got nicked up nelson way I figured hed gotten off to a crap start & I should show him a good time seen as how he,d come all this way to find some gold & can only imagine his impression of the people that live up there ! , so he stayed here off & on i put him on a bit of a spot & loaned him a dredge for a few weeks , took him hunting , nice guy we had no problems other than he didn't listen to direct orders about rain & rivers he had to get rescued by the station & then by me as his car was stuck between raging creeks ,i had to really twist his arm to shout the Sheppard a box for rescuing him too , anyway he also has a popular blog for his fellow countrymen , really nice pic,s of the places hed camped , naming areas etc , and that got me thinking do we really want more , possibly many more tourists coming here to our spots , camping , hunting , fishing , competing with us for free , its been grating at me for a few weeks , i must admit i do have a bit of self interest with regards to the guiding side of things so im not against people coming to NZ & enjoying our outdoors but paying there way in some form, i guess its pretty close to the freedom camping debate but looking back at the young lad cruzing around the country for the last 12 months sleeping in his small tent or car spending bugger $ , though he did start eating possums so il give him that! but then passing a lot of that info onto the interweb , the how to guide ! well not quite but along those lines .
    We give them free ACC cover so you couldn't expect them to pay to hunt our DOC estate, next will come the "living wage" while their here.
