Nah, nothing wrong with calibre, but the rifle make and model is low end of scale.
    What's your budget?

    +2 Nah
Nasty and cheap Remmy, but the owner is doing a good job of trying to sell one of the worst rifles Remington have produced.

Stay away from the remington 710 (the one listed on trademe) and the 770 as others have said they are crap for a few dollars more you can get a marlin X7 or howa 1500 failing that look for a good secondhand remington 700, ruger m77, marlin or howa. There is nothing wrong with owning a 270 if that is the caliber you want to go with.

What if he buys a .223? Would that be enough to knock over a deer?

I reckon you're better to look at a .308 or similar, if you were from Auckland you'd probably invest in a 7mm08. But fully realise it won't be your last whatever you tell the wife, girlfriend etc.

Think hard about what you want to target, what you want to spend and where'd you'd be going. I love glassing and tops stuff so bought a 7mm rem mag for the flatter longer distance characteristics with a supressor as my first, but have bought others since then all for different jobs.

Older ain't necessarily bad, and if you can try to get a test fire to understand what else you need doing to it e.g bedding, trigger, supressor etc.

Once you know what you like watch this site like a hawk as I'm amazed the rifles that have come up on here in the last 6 months.

although this is possibly worth a look before it closes in the next 30 mins for $600 odd

Oh my god did anyone read any of that crap at the bottom of the auction

I haven't laughed so hard in ages.

270 is fine,it will kill stuff dead if you do your part, it wont do half or any of what that seller says tho!

Much better rifles out there at better prices(especially on here )

Keep an eye out for a decent model in any factory calibre based on the 30-06 or 308 case.
