    Hunting with glasses/contacts

    Hi all,

I'm off for my first eye test in about 25 years and I am pretty confident they will tell me I need either glasses or contacts. My last eye test when I was about 15 came back with minor astigmatism but not bad enough to need glasses.
If I do need glasses then this will be a completely new thing for me.

What do people prefer for hunting? Pros and cons of each?

    Cheers.

I wear glasses. One set for up close, another for driving, long distance etc. I’ve found I can happily use my Vortex scopes without needing either pair of specs.

I'd go for glasses, but I'm biased, worn them since I was 6. Tried contacts for sport and things, they make life easy in terms of not worrying about breaking your glasses but they are pricks if you're staying the night anywhere (have to take them out, keep hands clean etc.) Get glasses with a tougher lens and you'll be ok. Walking in the rain is something you'll have to get used to however, either get used to looking through the water spots (like a car without windscreen wipers) or wear a hat or hood that keeps the water well away from your face. My wife always gets freaked out because I forget to put my car wipers on in lighter rain, just too used to squinting through the drops!

Contacts ideally for me. Especially when using NZ/thermal with the rubber eye cups that will leave smudges all over the lenses of your glasses.

I hunt with contacts. The perspiration which comes off me, mixed with the cooler air in the forest, tend to fog up glasses.

I carry a spare set + hand sanitiser in my day bag in case I have to take them out for some reason.

I wear glasses, sight in my rifles without them & remove or lower them enough to look over the top when I take a shot.

Get glasses and daily disposible contacts.
    Been wearing contact 40 years.
The only bugger now is i have old mans eyes so my arms are not long enough.
Even with my contacts now i need reeding glasses....or my other glasses and no contact. Cant win.

I hunt with glasses and wear a hat to reduce raindrops. I take them off to use binos. I have an astigmatism and contacts to correct these are a pain as they need to be unrotated to work properly. I don't want to miss seeing that deer!

I had to get glasses in my ealry 20s, it was abloody shock after hunting without them. I initially used contacts but they sucked getting them in and out while dirty in the bush on multi day trips or if they got poked out by brush or a stick.
So i got my eyes lasered. Best money i ever spent on anything. Look ito it for sure.

I had astigmatism in both eyes, bad in the right. Contacts couldnt correct enough but the laser could.
Rain, fogging from exersion, bush bashing, using optics etc all suck with glasses compared to without.

Tried my bifocals...got sore neck and sensory overload as everything under thirty yards was just too clear...my driving glasses however seem to be great for bush stalking and the really scarey part is just how much clearer my view through scopes is when wearing either them or lower powered reading/ hobby glasses.cross hairs crystal clear etc. have not tackled the rain thing yet.

As someone who wore glasses for many years, I hate them.
Always a smudged finger print, dust or fog on them.

I try and wear contacts as much as I can.
Overnights are no issue, hand sanitiser, a small bottle of fresh solution and spare sets.
Ive been using them long enough I generally don't need a mirror to put them in, but I do carry a small make up mirror for those times something doesn't feel right.

Clear Eyes Rehydrating eye drops are a life saver on dry windy days.

Glasses are no problem looking through my scopes but I take them off to use my binoculars.

Yeah i used to do that but it gave me the shits something fierce so i went Laser correction after 5 years. Was $6k at the time, same price as a decent rifle setup but made life way less of a hassle again.

I wear glasses. Tried contacts but I’m too lazy and disorganized to maintain them. Also spend a lot of time in sheep/deer/cattle yards so dust with contacts would be problematic. For hunting the only thing that annoys be is fogging in the cold but I live in Highcountry southland so maybe not such an issue for you? And having them flicked off in the scrub, that can be scary. You’re now blind and trying to find something see through and expensive. Fucking awesome.
