    HUNTS Course???

    Hi lads,

Am in the final stages of getting my FAL and looking forward to diving into hunting as a new hobby. I wonder if anyone has any input on the HUNTS course run by NZDA?

I'm hoping to get enough of a basic understanding that I could head out and have some clue as to what I'm doing and not just be some idiot in the bush holding a rifle with no hope haha.

Any feedback on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

I've just finished the HUNTS training and can definitely recommend the course.

Well worth it even if you've done a bit of hunting before.
Getting real world hunting experience with guys who have spent a lifetime accumulating the skills is invaluable.

As an experienced hunter I enroled for the Hunts course with my 14yo - because hunting in NZ is totally different to what Im used too.

I would totally recommend it, the best thing about it for me was that once we were done with the course we had all the gear to go bush the next weekend.

This and joining the club on their hunts. The Auckland branch organised hunts and would pair me up with someone more experienced to give me tips.

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!

The NZDA HUNTS course is very comprehensive. In addition to learning bushcraft, navigation, etc. You will also then ahve contact with your local NZDA members which should open some doors for future hunting trips.

So I just gave my NZDA branch a call and it turns out they are already underway and the course is full meaning ill have to wait until August 2026!!

    Pretty disappointing.

Does anyone know of any other alternative course i could look at doing instead of waiting a year? In the Christchurch/ Canterbury region
