James Andrew Pomeroy, 31, was fined $5000 in the Nelson District Court in December for unlawful hunting on private land in the Gowan Valley. Pomeroy admitted not having permission to hunt on the property but said it was one of his companions who fired the shot at the deer, and that he was there to recover the shot animal. The judge ordered the destruction of Pomeroy's hunting knife.
