    Kawekas / Ruahines

Lads and ladies, I haven't hunted these areas nor do I know where to access them from road wise. I will be traveling from Taupo not looking for ya secret spot ( although I woldnt say no ) just how to get to the bottom of the hill that has venison at the top.
    Cheers

@7mmsaum I would love to jump this post and see if you'd stretch your offer?

Take SH5 (Napier Taupo ) drive past Te Haroto, and turn right onto Glenfalls Rd.
From memory you come out onto Puketitiri Rd, turn right and follow that, and you'll see the turn off to Lotkow/ Makahu, after driving through Rissington, and Patoka, on the left (signposted ). Drive on up into the ranges. A 2wd car will be fine, if you take it easy. Park up at Littles Clearing, and go for a walk towards Black Birch bivvy. Keep your eyes open, sometimes see one on the ( slightly overgrown ) track.
Let us know how you get on.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

Are sure you don't mean "Glengarry road", it's past Te Pohue, goes across to Puketitiri road past the "Outdoors Centre"!!!!! That's where all they have on is a sun hat and a radio!!!

    D'oh, you're right.
Blonde moment, thanks for picking that up.

I'm gonna be scared to look at that Outdoors Centre now.

The turnoff into the Forest Park is Whittle Rd

I always turn off SH5 into Glengarry Rd, a cuppla k's past TePohue. Left up Whittle Rd at PUketitiri and stay on that to Littles Clearing a bit steep in places. Had to back the frontwheel drive car up a cuppla places but once up the hill all good. Take a shottie with you. You're likely to see heapsa turkeys close to the road.

Yeah I'd leave the shotgun at home personally. No use to me on doc land let alone for shooting turkeys from road

Wood pigeons are hard to hit in flight with a 338.

Shoot the turkeys? I was more concerned if they were on the adjacent private property or on the public road? Either way the turkey is probably already in the car.

The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds
