Example: shoot deer at 250m and on bearing of 240 magnetic, take waypoint of shooting spot, engage goto shooting spot and walk around the ridge until you get to 060 degrees to your shooting spot, traverse along this bearing using GPS and when you get close to 250m from your goto tyarget you will be close to your deers last known point.

Spot on. I've used this method heaps of times, and its the best by far.

A landmark will usually get you within about 50m, i.e. a tall tree, or similar. Then go to back bearing and use range finder back to the spot you shot from.

The gps is okay, but ranging back to your shooting position has found me deer I otherwise wouldn't have found.

Oh and listen for flies, they can give a clue. Doesn't take those buggers long to find a dead animal.
