@Jhon How does the naki NZDA compare to the auckland branch? I'm making the move back to the naki in May and thinking about joining.

I started hanging out with both South and Nth Taranaki branches but Nth club rooms are just around the corner from me so joined there. Shot at the range with Sth in Jan, one of their members took me on a meat hunt recently where I got a nice fallow hind. I've found members at both warm and welcoming with a good mix of young guys and old buggers with lots of experience. Like all such clubs there are bound to be some that grate on me and some that I grate on..Best just to stand back from that I reckon. Hope to be getting out a lot more as the house setup/unpacking diminishes. I'm a real newby to the locals so like all good things I'm expecting it to take some time. Off to a pretty fair start tho.
In comparison, Auckland is a lot bigger with often 60 to 80 members turning up at meetings. That might not suit some as well as a smaller group. But if you made the effort there folk were just as happy to engage..there was always something happening- it was up to you to join in.
I know a lot but it seems less every day...
I am a member through another club, and they still expect me to pay on a daily basis or buy a range card.
What if I only get to the range once or twice in a year? Bit steep charging a member that much.
As for non members, I think it will put off potential new members.
Which is terrible for the sport.

excellent post - wouldn't be embarrassed mate - I think its real common for guys to have a small circle of friends, and if you move away from school mates you kinder end up with work mates and not much else unless you can make a solid effort with a sports team or club environment.
I don't have many mates around these days as we have all moved apart and life moves on... Probably something like NZDA and getting involved in the club is a good move - unfortunately I am normally working when the local branch meets...
I expect he's in the second one havelock north coming from tauranga, for us in the north island to move across the strait there's immigration, background checks, counting of fingers etc.
Mate, good stuff, as Shadowsol said, not embarrassing at all! Turns out as a grown man, you do know how to meet new people... you've just done it.
My long term goal is to evacuate the windy city and head to Sunny Marlborough commuting back as required, but in the mean time, am planning a few trips that way, so will let you know if I do make it across, and you'd be welcome to join.
