Apologize for that. Yes definitely Kaitoke near Upper Hutt.

I'd go with NZDA membership. I joined North Otago, only managed to get to one of the club meetings BUT good bunch of buggers, they've been busy working with DOC to take over management and maintenance of a couple of back country huts and they built a new one couple years back in the Waianakarua block which is mint. My point being that my experience is that NZDA are like minded people, there's a lot of perks to NZDA with many discounts to be had with all sorts of suppliers and one of the most useful is that you're covered by NZDA's $10M public liability insurance which has been incidental in getting me access to a private block. Just that alone is worth the paltry annual membership fee imo
expect nothing, appreciate everything - and there's ALWAYS something to appreciate
Could try contact Wilson's Outdoors, and find out details/when next induction training is for Whanganui rifle range, not far for you. Fees are reasonable.
A couple of trips south with the nzda discount on the ferries and your ahead of the curve plus the other bits make it worthwhile
Yep, I would join NZDA, I joined to support them in the work they do for hunters, and I have met a good bunch of guys. I never really took any notice of the membership discounts but just booked a ferry crossing using my membership and the discount I got was just on $100, will have to use it more as didn't realize the discounts you can get.

I wouldn't choose a club based upon fee costs, pick the club that services the activities you want to do.
If you're primarily a hunter, then NZDA is probably the one for you.
I have been a member of RRGC for many years, but I do range and competition shooting at least twice a month, so RRGC suits me. If you want easy range access for sighting in, load dev, practice shoots and getting together for social shoots, then RRGC is a good choice. I you want, I can arrange a visit for you to take a look around and join us for a service rifle shoot as a guest and have a go, to see if it suits you before you make a choice. Feel free to pm me.
The Whanganui range is pretty good, i'm not a member but go there with a mate who is and it seems to be available to members anytime?
