    Manly Comrade folder knife - multple failures - poor service

    Hi all, I feel I have to pass on what I have discovered recently about the Manly Comrade folder knife I purchased from a Taupo trader that is a member of this forum. I purchased the first knife about 20 months ago and after a few months and hardly any use the locking mechanism snapped, so I returned it to the supplier and they replaced it with a similar Manly folder knife. This replacement has had very little use and it too snapped last week. I contacted the supplier in Taupo and they have rejected any claim for replacement as the law says that the warranty on a replacement product starts from the time of the original purchase. The Taupo supplier is within their rights to not cover the faulty item if it is outside the original warranty period, but I would have thought that they would have stood behind their product and offered some remedy. But they are not prepared to do so, and my points are;
    1) the locking mechanism on the Manly folder knives is not well designed and have a repeating history of failure
    2) the Taupo trader does not have the warranty conditions on their website so is hard to argue when this situation arises
    3) the Taupo trader doesn't have a feed back facility on their website so is difficult to assess their status in trade and service hence this post,
    so "caveat emptor" is alive and well, let the buyer beware!

    Cheers Ruger7mm

    Hey ruger

    I'd take it back to the company themselves. They probley know its shit and will replace it rather than the shop who's sick of replacing there knives?

    Not so, warranty restarts from zero on replacement item, check consumer law for the relevant passage and go get up them.

    I had a Manly comrade (it fell overboard in Tasman bay somewhere!) I found it an excellent knife, no problems

    Hi all
    I had to vent, the blade steel (D2) is great, but the locking mechanism is not. I have a bacho but if I put in my pocket I will be singing opera sooner or later. I checked online and it seems the warranty is indeed from the original purchase date, although the Consumers Guarantee Act says it has to perform with what is reasonably expecetd of it. Anyway, to my mind if you are looking for a folder knife beware of the Manly Comrades.

    The name alone would put me off. Sounds like the manufacturer is compensating

    Yep, the name is a"fail" - forget the knife or anything else .... the name alone is a show stopper. Perhaps very fashionable in Mt Albert or GreyLynn
