    Is it a DoC requirement to be back at the hut/base each night?

    From memory it was on our permit.
    TBH camping 300m from the road would put you amongst a shitload of briar. The archeron campsite was pretty good spot to set up camp. Had running water and toilets.
    The pervey doc guy was a bit of a creeper and did come down most days to check on us.
