    Email received from DOC

    Kia ora,

Thank you for your Molesworth ROAR hunting application. We were inundated with emails and have been processing and assigning blocks on a “first come, first served” basis. Even though your application was received within the first ten minutes, unfortunately the blocks and time periods you selected were allocated before your place in the queue.

This year the first five blocks allocated in minutes were Yarra, Five Mile, Dillon, Half Moon and Chimney. The majority of blocks were allocated withīn the first 10 minutes of the application page going live.

All current applications have been processed resulting in all the blocks issued aside from two remaining in the Lizard for the 3rd and 5th period – email me if these are options you are interested in (again first in-first served).

We are aware our booking system is not infalable but we do our best to ensure it is as fair as possible. We will also be doing some monitoring this season in the Molesworth to ensure hunting parties are abiding by the rules of their permits.

    Kind regards

What might be the issues/concerns DoC have to provide cause for them to monitor hunters during the ballot period ... surely there are better things a resource poor organisation could be doing with its time ( like balloting the blocks) perhaps ?

My application was for two people.

I got an email from them saying my application had been recieved. The time on that email is 9.32 !!

The only way to be any quicker would be to be a party of one !!

I would love to know the percentage of successful applicants who were exactly that ??

Seems to me the whole thing is completely biased towards those that are computer savvy, and can sit in front of a device and refresh the page time and time again.
My mate had his application in by 9.03, and missed out. The official word on his email reply was "Even though your application was received within the first 10 minutes, unfortunately the blocks and times selected were allocated before your place in the queue".
Now what sort of a fair and equitable system is this - never heard such a crock of shit in all my life

My guess is something like 95 percent of people apply for a select few blocks hence almost zero chance of getting one unfortunately.

I took the system up with DOC last year provided photos of the system error not allowing me to process the application. Good okd DOC replied with “thats the best system and bad luck there was some technical issues reported..bad luck”.

Roll on 2023 i sat there and submitted a application bang on 0930. Got to the next page saying application received and you will get a confirmation email. Nothing… nothing and nothing quick email to DOC. “We didn’t receive any application from you and they admit the system has failures… go figure had to think twice about my wording on my reply

When you compare it to how the other roar blocks in NZ are allocated it really is a bit of a joke.

I wonder if they would be open to change?
Anyone in the know on that ??

I think they should at least be open to considering a system change. A ballot would be a reasonable system.
I've been thinking today I might email NZDA and ask if they would consider asking DOC if they would change the application system for Molesworth Roar blocks.

Didn't go my way which was expected as my typing speed is below average. This system suits the fast typing kind of hunter.
You couldn't get a worst roar block system and considering how popular the area is it's pretty dismal.
Could be a dud roar in there anyway looking at those photos of the poisoned deer.

    Bugger !!
Its a shame for sure how the system is set up.
1080 doesn't get them all mate. Might be heaps of feed for the ones left and some good condition animals as a result
