I have a coupla mates that shoot feral stuff both for human consumption and for pet food.
Plenty of paper work etc along with where such animals were collected,how far from any poisoned area etc,etc.
Yes they have to comply..quite strict. Rules for some but others are excluded,go figure :)

There were heaps of 1/2 desolved green pellets on the ground in the clearings at the Sabine river mouth on Sat 26th sept
Also seen a couple of dead deer, 1 in the river and 1 getting pecked at by 4 weka.
Should have taken sum photos but was feeling too sad [emoji26]
