DOC is about to drop 1080 over a good part of the Nelson lakes in the next two months(33000)
Prob a good idea to plan a trip for a deer soon before its done. Of cause its to save the kea but we know its prob the end of 60% of them now ,

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. But just another part of bureacracy.
they want to worry about the wasp in there first. I want be going back there next year and spending money in that area
Got a link @deer243? Can't seem to find it on the website.
They shut the country down sending thousands of people broke and putting NZ well in the red over a flue but yet they still want to spend millions more of tax payers dollars on poisoning our land and killing everything on it.
And theure still zapping the Whirinaki too.
Theres plenty planned for winter. 72000 ha on the west coast. Got it sent to be on facebook with all the maps and the proganda DOC crap.
""Doc is planning predator control using aerially applied 1080 bait pellets over a area of 33886ha in the nelson lakes National park during winter, July1 to 31 August.
This will include the Travers and Sabine Valleys, the western flanksof the ST Arnard Rangeand the north western flanks of the travers range, including Speargrass creek and the headwaters of the
Hinemoatu-howard river"""
Also doing 72000 ha of Radiant Range and Mokhinui West Coast in july 2020
Yeap thats why we had a blast up
Hideous bastards.
Was visiting the South Island last year for a look around, awesome, and speaking to a fellow hunter, he asked about deer being shot from choppers in NSW, I confirmed it was going on and he replied "Kiwi's would say those animals were a resource." Yep I agree but "experts" seem to want to kill to waste. Sad.
This guy wants to worry about whats going on in the local hills

It's weird that there is no mention of the planned drops on the DoC website.
I f they would open up access to areas of Marlborough they control instead of making hard then we the hunters might be out there keeping the numbers down so they didnt have to dump that shit all over the place .
The size and lethality of the 1080 poisoned baits are way more than is required to kill a rat or mouse.
@veitnamcam gave me the heads up about this a few days ago so i popped into the doc office and got the info about it.
Here is a picture of the map.

Says it will be happening between July 1st & August 31st.
BUGGER !!!

Let me try to get my head around this subject, I'll weigh in for the first time your DOC drops green poison pelts all over your lands and streams to kill predators and protect the endangered birds, everything that eats these pellets dies probably an excruciating death including the fragile bird life they are supposed to be protecting from eating the poisoned animals, how LAZY ASS an operation is that leaving 100's of dead animals to rot in the forest and not have the decency to recover them, we have 1080 predator control for wolf and coyote out west but its done thru canine bait stations as to only kill targeted animals, something stinks about NZ's operation sounds like the poison manufactures, DOC and elected officals are having a circle jerk!!
Welcome to our nightmare. The small clean green nation of New Zealand is the largest global consumer of 1080. The bastards are poisoning our paradise. In January this year I found a residual pellet still mostly intact less than a metre from the edge of a stream in quite dense native forest so not only is this hideously cruel poison killing non target species birds and animals indiscriminately, it is also getting into our water ways and impacting aquatic life like our fresh water crayfish.
Bloody hell that's a large area to dump. Don't think they have done such a large area before in the Nelson Lakes. Bloody shame.
Not really. I know for certain the least infor DOC can put out about such drops is what they do so theres little time for anyone to ,make any noise about it.
Im not normally a big fan of some of theses anti 1080 pages you see on facebook as some are extreme with there facts but Carol Sawyer page is worth getting updates on
as its always posting the most updated infor on the next drop, the maps, where, when etc which you wont find on any DOC website until its too late.
Yes, i have heard in a year or two the rest of the lakes will be getting the posion rain also in the winter where people numbers are at its lowest.
The Lakes will never be the same again.
No they will not.
The below is an excerpt from 1080facts.co.nz. Like most fish species Koura do not die from eating 1080 pellets or animals that have died from 1080 however the 1080 is absorbed into their bodies. The impact to me is the down stream human consumption of eels, koura etc as I grew up eating these and I am sure that many Kiwis still do.
In the NIWA study on koura, it showed that they did eat some 1080 bait. If they ate bait soon after it was dropped into the water, there would be traces of 1080 in their gut and tail muscles, though this had no visible adverse effects on them
1080 and Fish
Point number3 it specifically said " koura did not absorb 1080 from the water"
It’s a fuckin nightmare , can’t confirm it but I heard they had been allocated $1,1 billion to do the so called pest control which included 1080 and the Thar cull .
Now excuse my ignorance. I dont know this area at all (sadly) But from the look of the map they are hitting the road end? Ummm why dont they hit the harder to get to areas and leave the road ends for us to keep under control? OK I cant see the rest of the map but from the look of that it dose look rather like a feck you to anyone taht wants to walk in and do some preditor control........
Guess its the reverse of KISS (keep it simple stupid)
SSIK (Simply stupid ignorant kids) give them all the toys and money and the behave like this;)
It is a massive area, fantastic hunting in mostly the whole area. If they hit the other side then it's even bigger again.
I can see that it’s a big area but why hit the road ends? Why not hit the back of the blocks and leave the front? Guess it’s down to boundaries terrain etc:( you think they would go for the places that foot hunters can’t get to and then work back from there.
I have to wonder what percentage of the population have and will actually venture into some of these very remote places they drop poison into to just enjoy the birdlife.
So is it really about the birds? Especially with such a high kill on what is supposedly being saved. Or is it about wild game and people control?
Control of people harvesting a free resource (once geared up) when they could be made to pay through the nose for it at a supermarket. I could be wrong but it has crossed my mind.
Part of the area is what they call a mainland island and as such it holds significant value to DoC. Honestly no one knows DoC's thought process with 1080.
Such a shame.
Lets be honest here. Without a walking track, access to huts etc no bird watcher or tramper or nearly anyone apart from hunters and mountain climbers are going off track into areas that have no access other than
bush bashing.
Most of the places i hunt no other person is ever going in there other than other hunters or dope growers and thats it.(And dope growers walk fu k all)
Never seen anyone else other than that group mentioned in over 30 years in the bush if theres no access other than going bush. Theses remote areas apart from DOC workers or hunters no one is ever going to
see the bird life or lack of.
You do wonder why they spend the time and huge money on pest control in areas that wont benifit many people and being such vast areas if they even go in there to test the results and even actually know the state
of the poison drops have done
