I am all for common sense. Unfortunately it seem to differ between individuals.:(

Rules are for the guidance of the wise and strict adherence of fools. I’m quite fond of that saying
I’d imagine that you’d need a concession to film a commercial TV program in a DOC managed area and you need a permit from DOC to fly a drone. With that in mind I was surprised how often the filming showed the dogs inside the hut. It would have been easy to make it appear as if they had never been in the hut.
None the less another great show with the best timed ending, almost scripted! :-)
The dogs must have had a vaccine pass to enter the hut.
Why the Antagonism ? Cant we just take the show for what it is and enjoy it . It is by far the best NZ hunting/outdoor production going.
Swedish trampers would have been invited to the hot pools
The dogs have a medical exemption and are 'Diabetes awareness dogs'. They smell their master indicate when blood sugar is low
Another great show. Hard yards hunting alright. I prefer those episodes to ones on private land.
Persistence paid off and that stag was well earned. The dogs looked pretty well behaved so a non issue for me
I've let my dog sleep in a hut before.
Great episode and talk about doing the miles :wtfsmilie:
Dogs in huts mean you need to burn less wood to keep warm :)
A snarling snapping critter with 2 or 4 legs would get the bums rush outside from me though
I really enjoyed this First Episode of Season 8. Willie's Stag was a modern classic from the Rakaia Herd, and one to be proud of forever!
Greg and Willie and Emil have done a fantastic job promoting and educating us all about "ethical' hunting whenever they can. They do the (bloody) hard yards, and often get fantastic trophy animals as a result.
And NZ Hunter must be pretty good, as my wife (about as much a non-hunter as a non-hunter can be) is happy to watch it with me - a bloody miracle!!
Those dogs are obviously not, half wild pig dogs that will go rogue at a moment's notice, friendly Labs under control. Good Job.
On tv shows, I watched one last night, wherein the presenter, was talking up his tracking skills and showed a Deer hoof print.
I congratulate the programme, on having such great wilderness skills, that they could come to that spot earlier, wipe the leaves clear of the ground, with their boot, leaving a clear patch of soft ground, in a semi circle shape, complete with a little pile of leaves, at one side, for the deer to come along later and leave a perfect and complete, foot print in the centre of the clear patch.
I wish I could understand deer that well.

@Copelli My mum was the same. She was in her late 80's and enjoyed the program; even when they didn't shoot something. I think enjoying an episode where they return empty handed shows how good the story is. She was never into hunting etc, but liked the story of them (mostly) walking in and also some of the climbing they did. Also; their ethics. Those ethics seem to be taken up by the younger generation on their YouTube channels too. Many of their channels are providing good content too.
We were watching it one night, it was the episode where Willie shot a huge red (16 pointer???) There was another party in the valley they were hunting in. Both parties saw the stag, and the other party buggered off after an hour or so. The Duley's stayed for about 2 days and shot it just on last light on the last night. Mum said "The reason they are always so successful is because they are patient". A wise observation from a non-hunter. I've always been amazed about the amount of non-hunters who like and regularly watch the program
As for the negative comments you sometimes hear/read; I think a lot of it comes down to jealousy. The Duley's have put their head up above the parapet and there are so many who think that they're "lucky because they get paid to hunt". Well; I reckon the realities of making a program like theirs, and keeping it high quality, is more than most people would have the guts to try. I bet they spend a lot more time behind the computers and also finding and keeping sponsors than any hunting.
Just imagine how much time it takes t set up shots, wait for Emil to get ahead of them for some angles, catch up from far behind for other angles. And the sheer nervousness of the "God I hope it's an interesting/successful trip" stress they are all probably experiencing most of the year, not just when hunting.
I think we have to be grateful to Hunting Aotearoa too for kicking off the hunting tv shows.
the episode late last season...when Greg finished the hundreth summit with fella...was awesome THEN we saw Emil was along climbing too...with his cameras.....my utmost respect went out to him then......you dont see a lot of the quiet Dane...he has come a LOOOOONG way from shy fella hunting with parents in early show.
bet them mystical swedish tourists would have been in that hot pool quick smartly LOL.
@Micky Duck That episode scared the crap out of me sitting on the sofa! Regarding Emil; If you make a point of noting all the times he's shooting Greg and Willie from far away and think that every time he has to catch up or get ahead put it in perspective. And; the amount of waiting around there would be for him to do all that; as well as shoot all the B roll footage... That'[s hugely time consuming. And; on that summit climb Emil had to do the same
Funny there have been comments on how well behaved the Duleys dogs are. Didn't anyone see the beginning of the show? One of them eat holes in Emils Rab rain jacket and chewed up his pack! Not sure if these people would have the same opinion of the dogs if they were sharing a hut and that happened to their gear.:D
Haha. I don't actually have a "dog thing" and I am not a dog psychologist so can't tell you why Gunna chewed Emils stuff. Neither am I passing judgement on the Duleys for having their dogs in the huts. I am simply pointing out what others seem to want to ignore because of their love of dogs.
I love dogs too and personally don't have an issue with sharing a (uncrowded) hut with "well behaved" dogs. But as I said before, not everyone that uses DoC huts likes dogs and not all dogs are well behaved so there has to be some form of regulation. That comes in the form of "No dogs in DoC huts". It applies to everyone.
If I took my dog into a DoC hut and there was no one else there I would have it inside the hut ( I would break the rules) and make sure when I left there was no sign it had ever been there. If there were others there and they had no objection to my dog being in the hut then, again I would have it in the hut. If there was the slightest concern then it would be outside. I would respect the rights of the other users. The rule is there simply to give other users the right to say "No, I would rather not share the hut with your dog."
Emil will probably make sure it is Gregs pack next to the dogs on future trips:)
I completely agree.
No-one else there = dog in hut and make sure it’s looked after and left clean and tidy.
Sharing hut and they are ok with dog in hut = same as above.
Sharing hut and they are not keen or the hut is too full = respect others wishes and rights and put dog outside.
I have done all of the above at different times based on each situation.
Boomfa, I reckon everyone could concur with that so no real disagreement
PS: Hanging out for the next episode!
They make me feel very lazy watching them from the couch...... i am also hanging out for the next episode. Im always thinking about buying new gear watching. then i go hunting and wonder why i want all that gear i dont really need.
" Me and boy having a watch now."
@Danny Good on you for sharing some quality Dad Bonding time & l bet this type of thing is why the guys put so much effort in to the program.
@bumblefoot Yeh a lot of people do not get the work behind the scenes to put these types of things out with a limited crew,l am a member of a Social Motorcycle Club ,that before Covid would do a extended Motorcycle Expedition around the World ,usually into some countries remote & off the tourist tracks regions every couple of years ie Simpson Desert , Baja,Laos, South America ,Cambodia etc , etc .For around 12 yrs one of the members & his mate who had a Motorcycle Vlog thing would tag along & film, they just filmed it all themselves, just with Go Pro's & small hand helds & as well as all the setting up shots to catch the right Views/light ,re-shoot because rain, dirt on lens or out of focus etc, etc ,they then both spent on average a week sitting on computers editing ,doing sound etc . A huge effort & when it is all weighed up for very little monetary reward & then a couple of years back you tube dropped the channel because there was too much swearing in a couple of years old episodes & a Vlog 8 yrs before showed some of the blokes running nude to jump into a remote beach in Mexico, they had no real come back & in the end deleted about 10yrs off footage.
great show again tonight...and great to see another lady who can shoot well.....and see fellas cooking too.
Good show tonight. I find it quite refreshing a hunting show where they're not decked out in Camo head to toe. Great shot on that Cham!
I'm worried about the cooking section. I made the pulled venison from the first episode and had it in sandwiches while watching the latest episode. Now they have me wishing I had made a Korma....Bugger it, now I have to go find some more venison......
Those recipes sound really good, and the first one is really good. Just a shame that when I watch it at half past stupid o clock in the morning as you can see by the time stamp on this post.... (I'm a shift worker) I end up salivating and a hankering to cook when I should be brushing my teeth and heading to bed....
Keep it up. I look forward to trying more recipes...
I had a good chuckle at Emil's choice of kitchen knife [emoji106]
Great show, always a good watch !!

Hearty wahine that one
Yes another good show, the no breakfast till lunch time bit would be no good for me though. And the new rifle in 300 wm , that surprised me too.
Is there a catch up watch any time?
Missed this last one!
