    Max if a cow can jump over the moon and a dish can run away with a spoon then I for one can believe that a deer can kick a peacock over a fence. Sideshow has offered up an entirely plausible explanation.

    The cow jumped over the moon, but sadly it burnt up on reentry.

    As for the dish and the spoon.... how much waikato have you had tonight?

    Zero but I will fix that in a flash.

    @mopheadrob why don't you just go and empty the pig traps at 5am on your way in to work. You would get in trouble if you shoot the dirty rooters in the reserve but taking one out of a trap would not be commiting an offence and would be a saving in ammunition, especially considering your last 200mtr group at the range.

    Someone tried to set up a game park type arrangement in Landsdowne Valley around the early 90’s. I believe this turned out to be a flop so the animals were released (or fence cut) into the scrubland/gorse in the valley. I was told back then that Fallow deer and pigs were released.
    A guy I trained at work used to shoot Fallow on his girlfriends parents farm in the valley, and that would have been pre 97 as I left that job then. Pigs on the eastern faces of the Port Hills weren’t necessarily recent releases, and are more than likely descendants of those from Landsdowne Valley.
    Just another fairytale from Stuff.

    I know a guy who shot a fallow deer on the summit road, must've been around 2003ish.

    I was talking to a hunter over 18 moths ago who would get both deer and pigs up there. Some very easy to get to-some not all. I got the impression they had been there for a while.

    The deer and pigs swam / washed down the Selwyn river in flood to lake Ellesmere along with Fallow deer, all from Selwyn plantation Board land up by 13 mile bush. Then they followed the Halswell river to the foot of the port hills. Nothing to do with hunters
    The Peacocks were released by a woman who makes hats for NZ trotting Cup at Addington Raceway. Again nothing to do with hunters

    Are you saying @Moa Hunter that the way I shoot at 200 metres, it would be better if they were stuck in a box?! Sounds like I'd better come up for some more practice!

    Loving the hard-case responses to this article, but it's a bit of a worry what some people read into the news

    No if they were in a box trap that would be unsporting. The trap I saw on the Tele was about five metres across, so at that distance the pigs would have an even chance

    this happens you just have to understand the poetic licence......
    dish = hot girl
    spoon = dickhead
    "the hot girl ran away with a dickhead"
    happens all too often..........

    and illsecond rushys motion (as long as it aint a wet one).seriously this port hills thing .iwas approached a while ago by a sheila at work (didnt know her from Adam)who asked if i could shoot a deer for her !
    seems the family have a lifestyle block out Tai _Tapu somewhere and had recently had problems with a particularly belligerent red stag whod taken a liking to their vege crop but a distinct dislike to the families kingcharles spaniel who was sent in to "chase the deer away!"(oh dearie me thinks me struggling to keep a straight face at that image).seems this stroppy bugger dined royally for a week or more before a "farming" friend of theirs converted him into freezer product-strangley enough this sheila was vegetarian so dunno who got the deer. Idid not ask about the actions of the farming friend _Ido not want to know -but me -no i wouldnt -to me using a centerfire in a urban area -NUP
    I have from time to time heard of more like this though further out little river way.

    wild game on the port hills -yupand guess what else is looming as a major problem for the CCC and E-Can-bloody canada geese an absolute infestation of the bastrds in the avon ,esturay ,and over in the wildlands formerly QE2 area.wonder which munchkin is gonna get the job of solving that !
