Peter Dunne bags heli-hunting win | Stuff.co.nz
Hopefully a step in the right direction
To plagiarise the oft quoted, "One small step for Dunne, one giant leap for ground hunters".
Personally I think it is a huge fuck up for everyone, if it is banned totally. It just needs better regulation, not banning.
How can It be a fuck up for ground hunters R93?
I've never heard of heli-hunting, I've heard of heli-shooting though....
Wait and see, if it is totally banned.;)
Why wait when you obviously know.....do tell.
Because I cant be fucked starting a huge argument. I have been on both sides of the fence. I hate helihunting but their is, IMO a place for it. If you have to ask then you are not likely to know what I do, or see it like I do.
Way back when HH come to light on the other forum I predicted exactly what has happened untill now. I got laughed at, and ridiculed. I cant be fucked with it anymore. I just know a total ban is going to be bad for the us and the thar. Period.
I think we are mixing up WARO and helishooting in this argument.
I think everyone would agree WARO has a place in NZ, not so for helishooting.
In your opinion would chasing animals around so some fat Fuck can shoot one educate the others and make waro less effective?
Only ask because i have watched animals that buggered off for no apparent reason then heard the chopper. They obviously new what that sound ment and surely more chasing less shooting would make them worse ?

I dont think HH thar has any effect on Venison recovery. Thar do wise up in a hurry, however. I have witnessed boths side of that scenario.
Flying around, so some fat fuck can get a trophy he can go home and wank himself over, is really not the issue. There is a greater picture at stake. People that do not believe AATH does anything for numbers are kidding themselves. The client in some situations, gets to shoot another 5 animals for every bull taken. Couple that with poor managment and DOC culling of thar, long term, animal numbers and trophy quality will really suffer.
I think AATH can work for everyone but it just needs to be managed properly. Ballot blocks must be off the AATH table for a start. There is plenty of thar outside them. The ballot areas are getting pounded. Doc are loving it.
I was thinkin of deer specificly .
One track mind :D

Deer do get "chopper wise" mate, no doubt about it. When they are wise, you have to change tactics even in a machine. Areas with good open country, to bush ratio, like the west coast will never get hunted out by machines.
Places like N canterbury and Nelson can be thinned out over time quite easily. Red deer are pigs and need quality food. They are easiest in the morning when they have a full guts. They are lazy, not alert and dont run fast. Totally different animal on evening.;)
As i thought. So the aath could have a affect(even if slight) on the effectiveness of waro.
The chops do certainly give em a hiding up here at times but will never clean em out.
Just have to hunt the bush.;)
Even if was poisoned relentlessly and chopper culled there will always be deer in nelson. Not high numbers but they will be there.
To many small holders are pro deer and can, will, and do release after poison .
When will the powers that be realise the vast majority of nzers like deer in there hills mountains and bush.

Ill agree 100% with what R93 is trying to say,for my own understanding.were most/some of the heli hunting happens thats contracted out from doc is in places were most but not all hunters get two so deer are high and can do some damage.before i was lucky enough to see firsthand id seen footage of heli hunting and the footage only shows the kills!! so I asumed they shoot everything in sight.I was to be proven wrong in the area and crew i met with, they flew into their area and in that time they seen 45 deer and took 20 and they told me thats there normal operating procedure.I cant see this as a problem if this is how its done elsewere.the pilot is a good onest bugger and I take his word for it.
how differnt and wasnt dunn bagging waro and people have confussed it with heli hunting
pretty sure dunne is against aath not waro. meh dont really care to be honest.
yea hes anti waro but thats politics and like you I dont give a shit,we all have to pay the mortgage thats all il say on the issue.
yea hes anti waro but thats politics and like you I dont give a shit,we all have to pay the mortgage thats all il say on the issue.just read another thread and im eating my foot now to keep onest should have read it.
20! Fark i thought they just shot the one 350 Douglas stag after chasing it round til it collapses :D
Joking, while this has been promoted as a reason to get rid of it i don't believe this is how the bulk operate even if a few do.
R93?
What i was getting at earlyer is that while the chopper may make just as much or more likely more flying fat pricks onto trophy animals (R 93 is that fair comment cos i really don't know)than performing waro operations if your flying after trophy animals you can't be shooting and recovering Bugger all of animals seen.
Waro in my opinion is the most humane most practical control measure for remote tops areas.
But it needs to be managed, it seams to be feast or famine depending on meat prices and animal numbers.
And Imho there areas need to be tightly controled and policed .
Its our resource like our fisherys or anything else.
So if your chasing a lot of animals round in order to get a client a trophy that are not shot you are educating them and hence more difficult to harvest in a waro sense.
You need animals to have trophys if they are not controlled they will get the green rain regardless of all the native by kill because that's what our "conservation" wing is legally required to do.

yes your right, problem is its gonna cost a fuckload to police choppers ,if you have boundrys how would you police them check their gps? they can just flick it off and back on again.get an official to ride shotgun? cant do that either in r44's and r22's .There was a trophy hunting action that got some pollys fumming this info was given to me secong hand and probably well known, about a crew shooting trophy tahr in the ass to slow them down for clients I wouldnt think this is common practice but you can see why heli hunting is in the spotlight imo.correct me if im wrong.
AATH is designed around thar and chamois.
That's not saying some greedy bugger wouldn't offer a trophy stag to a client if seen while out and about.
I wouldn't as I would save it for myself or a mate. Hasn't worked yet considering how many I have seen but Ha Ha
Dunne is trying to stop HH of thar and chams. Waro is wild animal recovery ops and these days apart from a rare order, doesn't involve thar or chams.
HH opposed to waro does make more money than venison for hours flown and logistics required, yet it is seasonal and harder flying, where venison isn't to such a degree.
I still think AATH should continue in some well managed form even though it repulses me.
If it doesn't, those animals will suffer far worse than what some fat yank or euro can ever do to them.
Hazing is a thing of the past by law and tbh it is way easier on everyone to have the client shoot from the machine.
Most blokes I know prefer it that way.

far worse as in ten 80? fill me in whats your take on that?
Meh I'll believe it when I see it. Hard to 'manage' something with 'regulations' when most of the guys doing it are crooks anyway.
You should, cause they are doing waro illegally in places and doc knows about it well and truly. That on it's own is fucked.
The reason to do the illegal runs? Easy deer, short runs (bigger profit) the ones that if you load a pack up you can be into in 3-8 hours, whereas the machine takes about three minutes from the hanger.
I don't quite understand why Peter Dunne is only concerned with the trophy aspect of heli-hunting.
I don't understand what, if anything,Peter Dunne would understand about anything
Good to see that a few on here have read about heli hunting etc, HELICOPTERS, WELL HOW LONG HAVE THEY BEEN HUNTING,still deer etc, and lots of them,to get to the point doc want them all gone, helicopters to,lock the place up,thats after the 1080 has killed all your hunting areas out,but on the other hand when all the helicopters have gone doc be getting no $$$ from them so ground hunters will be paying, as of now helicopters ops pay doc shit loads of $$ to work on there so called land, doc are right now looking at user pays on there land for hunting, will you pay them $5,20, 80, thousand a year like the heli boys do,
Yep there is still deer around, thanks to the chopper boys that got busted doing the dodgy from the 1080 block and the poor things got a chance to recover.
Even though they are still at times lying about where the deer come from......
That can only happen up the north island,1080 down here kills them as they use the 100% shit, ducks to(blue) one river that had four pairs blue ducks, hunter found 3 dead,
