    Queenstown end of April

Hi all. I'm in Queenstown for a class reunion of sorts toward the end of April. I'm wondering if it's worthwhile taking a rifle and heading to the hills somewhere after. Do you fine people know what would be accessible for someone flying to Queenstown ie using some form of public transport, water taxi etc. Could be day trips or a couple of nights (hut or tent). Appreciate it's probably the wrong time of year for people to disclose their spots, and being from the Waikato am completely unfamiliar with hunting in that region.

    Cheers

Probably best not to go to the greenstone.

It just got green rained early December and apparently the deer took a hiding from mates who've been in post drop.

    I'd be looking elsewhere.

I don't hunt the greenstone so either so it's not me being a prick trying to "protect" any honey holes.

Plus Greenstone is ballot only so you'll be poaching someone else's block.

If you can get a lift to the Dart could be worth a look. Especially up high for a chamois. But reds and whitetail potentially too.

There are numerous open permits hunting areas within 20-60 minutes drive from Queenstown. Plenty of animals about, so it's definitely worth a nudge.

East of Glenorchy expect hunting to be predominately in open country tussock grasses and matagouri scrub with occasional remnant open beech forest on the valley floors.

Send me a message if you are after some suggestions/access beta.
