Yeah plenty of roaring but they all seem to be sitting up in their beds not willing to come down

That first stag looks young and full of potential.

Yep he’s a youngster, the second stag chased him off. Lots of potential there. Be nice to bump into him in a couple of years time

Heard a keruru take off overhead, then a strange whistling noise, then a branch thumped onto the ground between me and the dog! It wasn’t big enough to do major damage but I would have needed new underwear if it hit me.
The big wallow I usually check was just a lake with about 10cm of water sitting on top of the mud.

I’m wondering if the roar hasn’t started yet, or if it’s been and gone already.
Well going back 3 or so decades (80's)
    It would start 28th
6th to the 12th was full peak
Then quiet for a week and a vicious 1-3 day spurt (no pun intended) some time between the 18th and 23rd
Sounds like parts of the Pureora has been a fizzer
Not Southern or Eastern by the looks

Not sure just how much room there is in the Southern Pureoras for deer. Every wee clearing, flat spot or pull over had a tent or a vehicle sitting on it yesterday

I was in the northern Pureoras on the weekend. Had a lot of rain on Friday night and Saturday morning was drizzly and windy. The stags were dead quiet, hunkering down and trying to keep dry no doubt. Then the weather packed in about lunch time before easing up a bit late afternoon, but still no roaring. More heavy rain and wind overnight but thankfully the wind buggered off by Sunday morning, resulting in a very clagged in and drizzly start to the day. Went for a lazy morning hunt and ended up roaring in and taking a young 10 pointer. Someone less ruthless may have left him to grow, but I’m out of salami..

Has anyone been chasing Sika? Specifically Clements. Any roaring action? Crazy busy in there?
