Once you pick ya campsite, look where you are going to pitch your tent and where your sleeping mat is going to be.
Nowadays I get on my knees and run my hands over the area feeling for short stalks and sharp rocks

Waking up on a sleep mat that has deflated is not much fun

One of those trad blue mats don't feel too good either when what you thought was good ground actually a lot of bumpy submerged rocks...
