None. Should have listened to my gut and gone where I thought the animals would be but got put somewhere else. I have not hunted that kind of country or that area so listened and went there while my mate went further down the valley. Hunters around, getting buzzed by choppers and shit weather didn't help

Just got out from the South Mathias, thought id post an update and some solid intel for future hunters...

Plenty of animals seen but no big donks - seemed to only be 2 or 3 young stags in the valley holding hinds. Some well used wallows on the tops. Good, but small camping options on the valley floor past the halfway mark and some epic camping on the terrace on the true right at the top of the valley. Bush was shite to move in - bush hunting isn't really an option. No one else seen in the South Mathias and no chopper activity all weekend.

Took a couple of hinds for meat and left the young stags, hope others do the same. Was tempted shoot a young stag for a "wank photo" just to wind up old @Husky1600#2 - appreciate the intel, but no need to be so grumpy mate.

Good on you for still giving it a go. Plenty of hunters down on the front country & West Mathias.
Main divide country usually has a later roar, after the 12th April. You'll always get the silly young stags poking around but the mature gents will arrive later and are hard to catch out.

Excellent, nice to hear that all the traffic wasnt in to the one catchment. From what I've been told, a few parties pulled out a day early cos of the impending NWester. One reasonable head from out around here somewhere, not sure which gully. And they havent really roared here yet either. But did watch a promising 10/12 trying to round up 6 hinds, dont know how her had any energy to mount any after all the miles he put in chasing them. Was cool to watch.
