Unfortunately Rees is an Australian with an Aussie sense of humour. A question for you Rees, what do you call a polite Australian?

it looks some of you have got the wrong end of the stick, from what i read he was wondering if he could hike into ballot block areas during the ballot periods and the answer is yes he can, its public land he can do whatever he likes except hunt it. the question of should he do it its up to him to decide i know some people get precious about their once a year outing roar hunts so he can expect some flak if he comes across those hunters but he has as much right to be there as they do its just the reality of it.

the ballot blocks can still have other public land users on them at any time (trampers, anglers etc) but only the permitted party can hunt that area during that ballot period. huts are also for everyone to use but the first in first served usually means hunting parties get setup before trampers etc come along anyway. if you wanted to go for a look nothing is stopping you but you know there will be hunters around so do it safely.

You can walk through a block to access your block. You just can hunt that block as your roar permit is only for the block you have drawn for the time period.

Here is the wording from the bottom of the permit
"Note: Other persons (trampers, fishermen, DOC rangers, guided groups and volunteers etc) may be in the hunting area."

Public land is public land and open to everyone, and that is how it should be and should remain.

But are people nowadays so entitled and selfish that they can't help themselves and wander into a roar block to ruin somebody elses time in there?

As if there was not enough outdoors to enjoy for everyone.

Just go to one of the spots more active with hikers for that period of time, or go end explore that particular area outside the roar.
