Thread: Westport Hunting

Hey fella’s

Just after some advice on hunting out of Westport. Going over for the weekend and wondering if it’s similar to the further south in terms of reasonable bush for hunting and pockets with good deer numbers on accessible public land. Not looking for your spot. Just wanting to know if it’s worth taking a rifle or should I stick to the fishing. Cheers

Lived and worked in the bush there for a while, seemed to be pockets of high deer numbers with nothing in between. That was in the nineties but all those spot have been devastated by 1080 numerous times since then. The best spots were always where the best grass was as usual.

Ah well. Might have a look online and see what I can find. If nothing by tomorrow night I’ll give it a miss. I’ll let you know by Sunday. Thanks

Just so you are aware it is illegal to walk up the rail tracks and there are a lot of work crews up there daily.
Try up the rivers of the main rd usually had good success up the river beds NZ Topp 50 shows where you can hunt
