The farm boys are pretty vocal this morning, bit cooler last night and still only 7 degrees now.

Had a good slog over the weekend in the Rotorua lakes area, only one daytime roar heard, passed up a spiker in hopes of a decent head. Had a stag going well over night Saturday but silent during the day. Was very warm, in a tee shirt the whole time. Good blow out of the cobwebs and pretty sore today

Was out with Shearer and they were roaring even before we could get our campsite set up

Did my first roar excursion with my boy off the Milford Road. Saw 6 other hunters over the weekend, but no deer. Couple of roars heard on Saturday evening around dusk and a few pre-dawn roars on Sunday morning. Managed to get close to one stag that responded to my calls on the walkout around 2pm, out which my Son really liked. He's keen to get out again so that is a successful trip my books.

Definitely sounds like roar is slightly later this year, southerly should get them going in the north though

Fallow buck croaking and chasing does around during the weekend - Canterbury. Seems pretty early for that.

Fallow croaking over here too. Does don’t appear to be cycling yet though so bucks still pretty friendly to each other.

    Reds going at it now.

Aaah, really hoping the fallow will still be making noise in a couple of weeks from now. Never actually heard one do that before so it would be a cool experience just to hear croaking in the bush for the first time.

They will have only just started in a couple weeks usually hear them fire up from mid April in Blue Mounains herd. Give us a message if you struggle to get a block Jessica and you want to get onto a noisy one

Nice, always hot competition around the rut period. Pre rut (ie: now) is a good time to hunt them in the thick stuff also, the bucks seem to hang out around their rut pads thrashing trees etc and generally making a bit of a racket practicing their defence techniques and setting up their love pads.
