I had a play with one the other day.a model 12 right? Those things are ridiculous! You couldn't walk around with it.

Yep Model 12-VLP, 10lb bare I think plus the 5-15x50 on top of it. Even the bolt felt heavy! Lovely thing to fire from a bipod though, rock steady.

I did use it for a goat hunt once, that was the day I decided to sell it.

sold mine too - was a 204, very accurate and nice to shoot - just not nice to carry - and mine had a MAE suppressor and Nightforce attached to it

Just a lack of long range bunnies up here - so it was sold

Well that's why I reckon a little 17 hornet would be choice For most of the property types I shoot on anyway.

A rifle that's not much bigger than the HMR, with an extra 100m on it. Realistically the range would probably be 250 meters... not much more.

People say the HMR is a 200m round... but it's not really (the wind effects the little round so much, and in my experience it runs out of punch out that far). People are saying the hornet will be a 300m round... but I am skeptical.

I may be just trying to justify another firearm purchase... given I have a 17HMR and a 223 I don't need it... but you guys surely understand, if we can find some way to justify buying a gun, no matter how silly, it's a good enough reason

I'm running the same scenario through my mind... I think I can justify it... No, don't be silly, mmmm, maybe I should...
