I once owned a .22 magnum Uberti cattleman 6 1/2" revolver in the early 70's. When the cases weren't sticking in the cylinder, you couldn't shoot through a barn with both doors and all windows open. It did better with 22LR, but my faith in 22 mag never improved.

Ive had a 22 mag in the stable for 40 plus yers, had a good run with it as a calibre, prefer it over the .17 hrm and .22 for hunting.
My browning pump rifle is a bout a 1-1.5 at 75 m with cheap 40 gr winchesters,
Ive got a CZ .453 lux and a VQ semi in .22 mag. Both do 1/2 to 3/4 at 75m fro five shots,
Ive found the heaver ammo more accurate out past 100 m as less affected by wind than the 30 gr.
I once emailed VQ about the ammo they test with and they said remington 33 gr and the new 35 cci 35 were more accurate, than any 30 gr, with 40 gr Cci being about the best in 40 gr weight,

Has anyone tried the Volquartsen or Magnum research semis?

I have herd they go quite well sub moa at 100m if you try different ammo

I’m keen to try the federal 50gr in the Anschutz, have heard good reviews

Yes. Magnum Research. The middle one:

It belongs to a teenage girl who lives on a remote Taranaki farm. She is responsible for controlling the fallow and goats, she provides a great deal of high quality venison. Head shoots them with 30gr V-Max. Lethal. Fantastic rifle, my preference would be to thread and suppress it but she prefers it as it came out of the box, perfectly balanced for offhand shooting.

Interesting @Flyblown I thought they had a warranty that was void of you shot anything lighter than 40gr as they use a gas bleed system!

yip says it on bottom of page....... guess its like the old stingers giving semis a hard time with rearward bolt thrust being so much more brutal...

I very much doubt that even occurred to her, or her father.

I specifically remember the Vmax but there was another bullet they used as well but I can’t remember what that was. I remember the Vmax because her father was complaining how expensive they were.

Then I read an article about a guy who tested every brand of .22 Mag ammo with a machine rest at 200 yards, and none of them grouped very well. He concluded that nobody makes accurate .22 magnum ammo, unlike .22LR.

Yet sometiems I hear of people who do have a .22 mag that shoots well. Inch groups at a hundred. Half inch groups at 50 m.

I mean, sometimes I dont know why I bother, because I have a .223 that I download to 2000 fps with AP70 and it shoots very well like that. And frankly, the last time I checked, I was reloading .223 for less than what a box of 50 .22 Mag can cost....but still, I like the round. I want to like it...
During all the years I had my shop, the .22WMR ammunition which shot the most accurately in a good many different rifles was the Australian made Winchester. For reasons I never did get told, Winchester dropped that from their line and the U.S.A. manufactured replacement was no where near as consistently accurate. Next most accurate, seems to have been the CCI Maxi Mag. If I can figure out how to upload them, photos of the Winchester packet plus a copy of a customers target with both of these ammunitions shot at 50 metres, will be attached.

Greetings @Hunter2. What a great informative first post. Too attach a photo try clicking on the circled icon on the reply page and select the photo you want. It sometimes takes a while to load so make sure it's attached before closing upload window. Good luck.

Yep i have a VQ Semi. Very accurate, tight chamber tolerances, i have to clean it after a packet or two, or it begins to suffer jams, regularly get 5shot groups at 75-100m a $1 coin, will cover.
    My favourite rimfire.

    I have a 22m marlin and shoot 22mag CCI .
It is Very accurate , had it out tonight for the first time in ages and shot 3 hares , a cat and its kittens.
Seems to have sooooo much more stopping power than the 22lr subs.
