    300 Blackout Super sonic loads

Team - will a suppressed 300 Blackout be noticeably quieter than a 308 Win when super sonic loads are used in both?

    Cheers

Burning considerably less powder, you'd have to think it would be, and you still have the super sonic crack as well. A supressed 223 still makes a fair amount of noise, and i doubt a supersonic 300 BO will be too much different.

Have shot mine alongside a suppressed 223, and the 223 was noticeably louder. I was using the American Gunner 125gr.

theres a slight increase in crack the faster you go but 2000fps for 135s vs 2600 for 150s is hardly big enough to tell the difference from at range

I shoot both cals, both suppressed, both sub and super.

The 308 rifle has a bigger suppressor than the Black out.
It’s an old school DPT that is about 400mm long.
The Black out has a DPT mini on it and a 4-1/2inch shorter barrel.

I find that the .308 is quieter with both types of ammunition unless both rifles are un suppressed. Then the .308 is louder with full power loads but not fundamentally louder.
    It’s not like the difference between a .22 and a .223
You have to be familiar with both or hear them in quick succession to know which one is being fired.

As I write, I realise all of the above is a long way of saying the suppressor makes more difference than the difference in caliber in this scenario.

I've found 300BLK supersonic with a DPT mini-suppressor/6 baffles to be relatively quiet, certainly quieter than a .308. In fact, I was struck by how quiet it was when I first used it. Having said that, noise or at least noise perception is quite subjective, and then there's the question of suppressor.

308 is louder in my experience but then it's burning more powder and pushing a bigger bullet faster, just the same as a 338 is louder again.

Also 300 uses pistol powder and burns it up in a 12.5" to 16" short barrel. A 308 with such a short barrel has a lot of powder still to burn by the time it reaches the suppressor so more hot expanding supersonic gas exiting the muzzle.

even with subsonic there is a difference in sound between bullets
slippery High BC bullets are very quiet compared with the lead cast or flat front bullet

if you slowed down the 308 by a few fps to 300blk territory and used the same bullet, and had sufficient suppressor capacity they "should" be identical but failing any of those the 308 will be louder fractionally
