I'm walking down this path as well but in a lever gun.
True-flite can do 358 win barrels.

Second the comment re 338 bullets. Most are meant for the magnum velocity and are long for short action magazines.

Check out the Knowledge base at terminal balistics. Nathan has gone through and reviewed bullets and their operating ranges.

In my case I want something fast handling for goats or pigs at short range in scrub country but able to take deer out to 200-250 mtr or so.
I have a fancy 243 that shoots 108gr ELD-M at 3000 fps for 2-500 mtr work. Still has over 1000 ftlb at 500 mtr.

Well I can tell you when you shoot a deer with a .375WSM (235gn Speer) you can actually look thru the hole in your deer but eat right up to almost the bullet hole.
BUT if I shoot one in the shoulder with my fancy 6.5 then the whole front end is rooted

Big bullet, big hole, hydrolics fail. The 225BT 358 punches a big hole and expands fairly well out past 300m as well.

My 243 is like that in goats and small deer with the Bergers and ELD-M. Can't eat the off side shoulder or chest and sometimes even the near side is marginal.
    But they go down quick.
I could change to an ELD-X or harder bullet but then then they won't go down as hard.

PS Walker, Whats the 225BT you are using.

9.3x62 285 gr Norma Oryx. Red hind at 70 yds DRT. That is the exit hole.
As they say you can eat right up to the hole.

    Hi Walker.
    . Is that 2800 in a 358win or something a little larger. 35 Whelen or Norma 358
would be interested in the load details and whether its a hot load or still has a little left to give.

2800 fps, I would think its got to be a .358 Norma, at that speed, might get a Whelen that quick, if it was run hard, and had a fast/long barrel,
I am looking online, for a cast mould, to try subs in my .358win, think 200-230gr for starters,

Spanner in the works 458x2" American Bigger bore and will run in a wsm action without bolt mods. Brass is cheap to get ie cut off any belted magnum at the shoulder size with 450 marlin die and trim to length possibly ream out depending on brass thickness. Or 450 Bushmaster Kiwi Greg did a few 12 inch barreled ones shooting. and you can get factory 16 inch 450 bushmasters for about 1k new.

i was thinking of the jacketed pistol type bullets 140-180 bullets at 1500-2000 fps would be fun for goats etc and make a fun light load for game out to say 100 mtr's.
Save the 225gr at say 24-2500 fps for giving mates scope eye and pigs, deer and tahr.
