    44 mag bush rifle

Hey guys. Real keen to get a 44 mag bush rifle set up. Got my optics and suppressor sorted (Leupold and DPT), just deciding on a rifle to use. Was thinking a lever action (With barrel and tube mag cut down) or the Ruger K77 (Cut right down to stock). Just want to know what everyone else recommends. Could possibly go with a single shot, like the Bergara scout. Open to options, just seeing whats out there.
    Cheers

There's a really nice Ruger 77/44 package at hunting and fishing in pukekohe you should ring them about it.

OK, you have my interest now! Can you get subsonic rounds suitable for hunting off the shelf? Is the Ruger a good gun? What's the bullet drop at 100 metres subsonic? How quiet is it really when subsonic/suppressed? Recoil?

Here's my 44 mag subsonic rifle. I've only ever used subs in it. 200gn projectiles with Trailboss powder for plinking sound just like. 22 subs through a silenced rimfire.
Hunting load is a 275gn Keith projectile with win231. Good to 100m and let's a lot of light into whatever it touches.

Imo the 44magnum doesn’t need to be suppressed, I’ve used it 100’s of times over dogs and that’s what I like about it.
    I have two a Rossi 16” and a Ruger 16”.
I have “bail rounds’ (low pressure) loaded second down and hot rounds on top and below.
Cutting a 16” and putting a can on is a waste of effort for no gain.

I took two stags in Ashley Forest some years back side by side on a road at over 120m, we were amazed I hit them but really amazed how they were sacked on the spot!- sausages for 12 months!
A great caliber and really under-utilised in the bush for deer.

I have a 16” 44 with dot sight on and love it for bush hunting, mates got exact same thing but with a suppressor and is way better, don’t see why you wouldn’t suppress a rifle now, he has dpt overbarrel on just off the stock and doesn’t change balance point

I have a 357 rossi 16" and love it to bits. I'd have a 44 in the same in a heartbeat but while I'd like to fit a can for shits and giggles, it is such a short and neat little package I think it would ruin it for me. I'm even second guessing myself putting my favourite little OEG sight on it. @Danny there were quite a few gun writers in the mags I read years ago that rated the 44 mag very highly for deer sometimes at quite long ranges.
Skeeter Skelton was one from memory and he liked them out of pistols...
    Elmer Keith also of course

My 280g cast flatnose subsonic rounds are 3in low @ 50m from full power loads, loudest sound is the bullet striking the target and no recoil..never shot at 100m where I hunt 50 is a looong shot..
