Come to the conclusion the brass is too long after comparing with saami specs so I have just ordered a case trimmer from gunworks. If that does not work I may have to get the chamber opened up which is a pain. Have tried 120vmax and 162eldms with no rifling marks on either projectile. End of the day could just be a very tight chamber. Am using factory Winchester brass btw

Does the empty brass chamber ok ? Then won’t chamber with pill ? What’s the neck diameter before and after loading a pill? Do you have a way of measuring the coal to lanz like Hornady case and gauge ? What part of country are you?

Empty brass goes in mint but soon as you load a pill it is a major struggle or will not go at all. Will measure before and after tomorrow. No way to measure coal to lanz but seems to be more of a neck issue than a throat issue as no marks on pill from rifling. I am in Auckland.

iirc they used the reamer with a .317 neck dia. Is that correct?

If so you'll need to neck turn your brass, same as mine

Unsure what the neck was chambered too as gunworks just swapped the barrels over. Will look into neck turning as never done that before. Cheers bro

I've just measured my loaded rounds on new Winchester brass, .313 (havnt been turned)

The 284 doesnt like tight neck clearances at all, you'll need a min of 2 thou, some even recommend out to 4 thou clearance.

My Petersen brass is 0.3165" loaded with a 0.314" bushing giving me just over 0.002" neck tension. Not turned

Have you check the primers are seated properly? I had the same thing happen to me recently. Sized they fitted but loaded they didn't. Turns out a new cartridge to me and even though same brand of brass as I use in other calibers my seater was leaving them a couple of thou proud. Adjusted the seater and problem gone. Hard to see by eye but putting a straight edge across the base showed it up. Since I was only bumping the shoulder back a couple of thou it created a problem as the primer took up more room than there was so a tight on close bolt

@sneeze we crushed the first round and then backed it right off so that is not the issue we think. @r87mm will check when I do some more loading mid week(have to do it at a mates and he is not local to me) but don't 5hink that is the issue. Seems more to be with the neck of the brass

So went and saw @chainsaw who was good enough to help me out. Looks like I need to ream the neck again ffs. Loaded ammo measuring 0.3155" would not chamber so think I will get it opened up to 0.317 or 0.319. Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.
