    Sako 85 6.5x284 | Trade Me

heres another nice rig, why would they go 1,9 twist when there shoting 140 grain bullets, dosnt this mean at long ranges the bullet wont stablize properly(accuracy loss)?

I agree D. 6.5x55 is a great all purpose rifle. Maybe that's what in hindsight I should have done - But where's the fun in that...

Or you can be like me and buy a 7mm Rem Mag, then go Hmmm I need something a bit cheaper to run that's not a coffee a shot and too long climbing in the supplejack and buy a 700BDL in 223 (similar flat shooting characteristics) , then realise its actually too nice to smash around in the bush with (and believe me it is!) and then decide to go 300BLK for the bush pig.... and maybe a nice black gun to plink rounds with well that would be nice too.

That's before I even bore you with my 22lr journey (onto rifle three, keeping 2 of them) and shot guns where now a fantastic Fabarm XLR resides in the safe but I've an eye for a nice miruku U/O in the background...

And that's how you fill the first safe and start on the second... But i bet there's no one else who would have it any other way, rifle ownership is a journey - It'd be no fun if you didn't savour it!!!

The 284 does not replicate 7mm RM performance no matter how much you would like it to.
I am sure you will say that your 284 gets a 162 gn bullet to whatever fps, but a 7mm RM WILL make it go faster for equal pressures.

If you say so. Real world tells me my 284 was doing 2950 easy and could be pushed to 3150..rem mag speeds no question.

    advice on buying

Really a mute point being raised.
The 284 seems a perfect fit for the tikka conversion me thinks.
    284: Never a 7mmRM but for the business I definitely think she's a beauty.

Is that the real world according to @Cartmen?
Not sure what bullet weight you are talking about there. Can't be the 162gn I mentioned but you must know a lot more about reloading than Barnes, Hornady, Speer, Nosler and the rest of them.
They all seem to think that the 7mm RM will get 150-250 fps more than the 284 Win if both loaded to max pressures.
Maybe if you rechamber that rifle to 7mm RM you will get 3350fps?
I am not knocking the 284. It is a great cartridge. Right up there with the 270win and 280rem but I will stick by my original statement. The 284 win will not replicate (maximum) 7mmRM performance.

Thats is my real world experience with it yes. It was the 162 amax and my mates using their rem mag were getting similar results. Im not having an Internet shit fight over it.
