I have a 7mm08 that loves ppu 140gr but I cant find it any where and the prices have almost doubled around me so I've bought a cheap 303 for a bush pig will run fmj to keep it cost effective.

Its gonna be unpredictable for a bit.
Don't give up on your 7-08 it's a great round.
    Buy a Howa .308 if that's what's readily available.

7mm08 everywhere, combine .308 case with lube, Lee hand press and one pass on the full length die, load up with primer, powder, projectile (yes, these may be harder to find) and go!

Found this on a thread from 2019 about this ammo

@stagstalker Shot a couple of deer with that ammo in my old 7mm08. 140gr going around 2660fps. Shot one yearling at 200 that dropped on the spot dead and a big velvet stag that expired very quickly after the shoulder shot. I wouldn't really trust it going much faster on anything big up close though tbh

Been thousands of deer shot with 303 fmj back in the day bud. Occasionally used to cut tips off with pliers and clean up tip with file sometimes to aid expansion.

Not a good idea at all unless you want the jacket to seperate from the core and massive failure of the action when you fire the next shot!!!

Yes I know that theory. Back in the 60-70’s hundreds of rounds were modified around the country without mishap, they even sold jigs for doing it and hollow- pointing. Just what was done back then. But as originally stated thousands shot with fmj.

I saw someone try put an animal down with FMJs and it was fucking horrible 7 shots in and it was rolling around on the ground screaming not even close to dead
one from my 308 and it was game over

    dont use FMJs for hunting

FMJ is all about placement. Get them in the right place and no problemo. The best most destructive bullet in a spot that isn't immediately vital will fail to kill cleanly...

Agree, bullet placement is always most important. That being said, ammo such as 223 Norinco fmj especially in yellow packet was a very effective round on animals. Tumbled on impact as designed creating big wound channel.
