    Anyone regret fluting their bolt?

As per the title, anyone regret getting it done? If so -why?

Just because I'm bored at work. I can't see the point, the weight saving must be minimal and those grooves can get crap in them and in to the chamber. Each to their own though, if you like it, you like it!

I've only ever done it for asthetics but hey like you said "if you like it, you like it" most important if you are going to get it done, get it done by a reputable gunsmith.

Stuff (leaves etc) gets caught up in it when pushing thru scrub which i can live with but it seems to rust easier. Fluting saves 3/8's bugger all weight. Really is just adding to asthetics or "wank" factor.... but if it floats your boat who am i to argue.
Personally I would put money you were going to spend on getting it fluted into a better trigger or scope.

I like the "wank factor" as @mikee fondly puts it. Liking the looks of it is in the eye of the beholder....bugger everyone else. Never regretted fluting the bolt, even if the beech & manuka leaves like hiding in there.

Can't say I've ever had any issues with it rusting, surely that would be an issue with the steel or storage conditions/environment or maintenance ?
If it's gonna rust after fluting then it would have rusted before as well
I'm talking from a stainless point of view not blued

I had one done. Looks neat. Doesn't save a noticeable amount of weight. Don't regret it - but itch has been scratched and it certainly costs too much for me to want to get it done on another.

I wouldn’t do it on a rifle that would be used for bush hunting, you get enough crap in the barrel channel, etc

the spiral flute would look really different if done on barrel itself... personally I couldnt justify the expense for such a small weight saving...but just like flares, super large exhausts and pin stripes...if it floats ya boat...its your $$$$

Having said what I said above it would not stop my buying a rifle if it had what I wanted otherwise. In fact I brought 2.
Sold the Bergara but still have the Tikka (Both in 308)
Tikka had both barrel and bolt fluted @Micky Duck but I really wanted it for the 1-8 twist barrel
Both shot like demons but the Tikka slightly more so
