@Old_School yeah my dovetails are still there, I just made sure that the top of the receiver was nice and flat for mounting my rail. Filing just removed the distorted parts of dovetails and cleaned up the top face of receiver.

OK, i see what you mean.
I had been looking at this here as a possible solution, it slides over the existing rail and the grubscrew holds it in place.

That looks great. DIP makes lovely stuff. That's an aluminium DIP trigger and bottom metal on my Marlin.

Those DIP trigger kits are popular, do you know if anyone stocks these rails in NZ?
I have read a bit from others who have had these rails slip, but i guess I could drill into the receiver a little for the grubscrews to grab onto?
Much cheaper solution than what the gunsmith offered and is essentially the same result.

I got my trigger partsfrom Kinney's in the US - very good seller. Not sure if you guys are able to order these parts from abroad?

Yeah we can, scope mounts are no problem, but you need to apply for an import permit to get the trigger kits.
I think delta Mike was stocking those at one point, might be worth hitting them up for the rails.
