Those Toz always remind me of a Lee Enfield.....cock on closing, pretty primitive but bloody reliable.

Another one for the Toz vote. My Toz 78 is more accurate than I can hold it and being Russian of course you can hammer a nail in with the front sight. Bought it second hand 20 years ago never let me down.

You're not wrong. The one I had, came without a mag, so I figured there was no real reason to keep it as any sort of classic, so I cut the barrel back inch by inch and filled the mag aperture with a piece of wood. Measured velocity and at 16" she was bloody spot on. Crowned the muzzle with a hand drill and it hit most things I aimed at. I fed it on a diet of $4 a box Ozzy stuff. Amazing rifles.

Do you have the 78 or the 17? I finally found someone who has after market mags for the 17 and I have mags for the 78. The 78 is still available new and is also sold as the Winchester wildcat 22. In fact Winchester did not even bother taking the Toz branding off, they simply added theirs to the other side. though the branding with the winchester name means they no longer fit the budget "plain jane " description. Still very good rifles.

What price are the 78s these days Tim - good little hunters esp with the set of 4 mags they had in past. The Toz I'd like to get my hands on is the 78-06? - the heavy barrel variant. Very sharp little shooter.

$500 with the 4 mags but I am out at the moment. The 06 was a little dearer and he only got 6. I think he wants to bring more in but has not yet. They pop up on trade me from time to time. There was one recently for around $350-$400....but it was a semi auto. Still a dam good price though. New they are $599 for the semis and we do have a few of those left.

Thanks for the info, but I gave the TOZ away 15 years ago to a cockie for dispatching sick stock. It went with the advice that it shot faster than any other 22 rifle. I can't find the exact figures anymore, but it was around 150fps quicker than the '06 Winchester.
