    Cleaning plastic/synthetic stocks

Any one got any tips on getting black plastic stocks clean, like real clean, back to original looking.

I have tried scrubbing in the sink etc, all the basic things but when they dry out there always seams to be almost a mud stain on the plastic or deep in the grain of the plastic.

I'm a bit hesitant to try any harsh things on the plastic as I wouldn't want to damage it.

Just like my guns looking nice before I take them out in the winter mud again haha.

    Thanks
    Russell

Some warm water, Ballistol and elbow grease might do the trick.

Try super fine steel wool, gently. Or if you have it, bronze wool.

Years ago a friend used Armour All when he bought a beat up Ruger with the paddle stock.
    Came up like new.

Yup Armour All will do it nicely - just a scrub with soapy dish washing liquid first - use old toothbrush if mud etc badly caked on - spray on Armour All -allow time for product to work maybe 30 mins or so -gently buff with piece rough towel

The surface may need a very light blowtorch treatment, to heal the surface. Try on am inconspicuous area first though.
Avoid anything intended for laundry as they are chokka full of brightened, which reflect UV and will make the stock look like a lightsabre to deer.

A good clean with some soap etc, let it dry, then Armor All. Definitely dont use anything abrasive like steel wool, or some of the cleaners that have "grit" in them.

Gun oil seems dissolve most things as you would expect and presumably, gun stocks would not be damaged by the stuff. That's what I use anyway.

You could try Motomuck. It's really good for cleaning muddy motor bikes & mountain bikes.

Also a bit of silicone spray (eg crc 808) will be good on plastics to "restore" it a little.
