Thread: DPT magnum vs DPT standard OB suppressor performance ?

Hey, wondering if anyone has any experience / recommendations on the DPT magnum vs non magnum OB suppressors?

When comparing specs on the website I noticed if adding 1x extra baffle to a standard model, the weight and price add up close to the magnum model.
Will they perform similarly, or is one better than the other?

Specs as follows:

Standard with 5 baffles =
12.5cm behind muzzle
11.5cm forward
weighs 360g
costs $485

Magnum with 4 baffles =
17cm behind muzzle
9.5cm forward
Weighs 365g
costs $495

Application is for a 20” barrel 308.

Could be a moot point, just looking to be swayed one way or the other.

Im not an expert but I would say the 5 baffle standard would suit a 308 better. It would be weird to buy a magnum suppressor for a standard cartridge, and more baffles forward generally means quieter.

I am looking at doing exactly this to share a suppressor between my 270win and 7PRC....lets face it a 270win is basically a magnum anyway but what I am curious about is if I got a non magnum and added a stainless barrel would it be ok for using on the 7PRC ? instead of going the other way ?

A 308 needs 7 at least. My mate was running too few so bought him 3 more including the SS baffle. What a difference.A DPT can.

So the standard chamber is only for cartridges up to 270/ 30-06 case capacity.
Adding baffles does not turn it into a magnum.

The magnum over barrel is designed for cartridges with a case capacity up to 300 win mag. But it can handle very well smaller cases like 308 .

On my personal rifle , a kimber 308 cut at 17”, I have a magnum suppressor . If your intention is to go very quiet, then start with magnum model, and then decide if you want more baffles added or not ounce you have tested it.
