    Frodo,
    Have a look at rectnagel mounts. Should be able to get them in NZ if not here in Australia. Not to taxing to put them on. Not much change out of $600 though for rings and bases when I got mine done about 5 years ago.

    Personally I think a lot of those euro mount systems set your scope up too high to get a good cheek weld.

    Yeah I've considered Recknagel and EAW pivot mounts - but as you say they are quite high, and the comb on my rifle is already quite low.

    From what I understand, the claw mounts, while a bit more expensive, allow for lower mounting (lower than any other mounting system) and especially if you go for a scope with a proprietery rail as opposed to rings.

    If my rifle wasn't traditionally styled, I would have gone with a Picatinny setup - less fuss (probably more durable) and cheaper. But in my situation it wouldn't look right.
