Toying with a wild cat idea, a 270 based on SAUM or 6.5 PRC. My question - is it possible to rechamber a 270 bbl to work with the shorter, fatter SAUM or PRC case format ? A bit like turning a 708 into 284

and then your magazine might not accept the width of the cartridge case shoulder .......
too old to die young
6.5 PRC superimposed over 270 - looks like you will need to set it back around 14mm. Sorry not a gunsmith though...![]()
When T3 .270 wsm's are practically given away now, why would you go .270 wild cat for an extra 150 fps? Serious question.
Out of curiosity, what did you use to overlap the two images @bjp?
from the SAAMI standards here: https://saami.org/technical-informat...ami-standards/
took pdf, opened it in pdf Xchange Editor on my PC, then did a screen grab from one page (using the Snapshot tool in the app), pasted onto the other page, and adjustaed the opacity of the pasted picture to 40%
then used dimensioning tool, to add dimension. I check against a known dimension and adjust scale to fit (turns out the scale of the pictures is 3:2 in the pdf) then scaled the pasted picture to match another known dimension.
When you've done it more than a few times (I use it for work regularly), its a pretty quick exercise.
'Why?' is my standard answer to 90% 0f queries about 'new' wildcats.
So essentially a 6.8 PRC?
Would 6.8 western be an option? instead? thats at least saami approved.
I would look at ptg or Manson and price up a reamer
Then CH tool or similar for a set of dies and price those up
Then when the shock wears off see what’s close to what you want
And easier like 270 wsm or 270 wby
Just been down this rd with a mate wanting something custom
Reamer ended up in the $800 range with custom grind fee
Tariffs and freight (PTG)
Custom dies were $350
For a fast 270 good option would be a 270 weatherby magnum
There are a few reamers in the country dies off the shelf
And being 7mm mag length they fit and feed nicely
Plus reamer cleans out a 270 chamber with out set back
