Importing a rifle chassis - how hard?

Been considering purchasing a MKM bull pup rifle chassis from the USA. What’s involved in importing something like this? Is it easier to just use one of the many forum members doing this commercially?

Initially you would want to apply for an import permit, they might question that when you fit it, will it comply with minimum legal length of 762mm for the assembled gun.

The other thing to check is will the US side actually ship, lots don’t export now.

The NZ import process is simple, just fill out the import form and wait for it to be approved.
It's the export that's usually more difficult.

If the retailer in the US is happy to export then it will be easy.
If they wont and it needs to go to an export agent then it'll start getting less easy, and more expensive.

Conventional wisdom is you want to maximize exports and minimize imports. I don't understand why U.S. manufacturers aren't wanting to maximize their sales.

So what impact is the export of one bullpup rifle chassis going to make to the US trade balance?

Apart drom that its simple. too much hassle with overseas shipping companies (nzpost as an example).

Too much time (that the customer will not want to pay for) to put into trying ti sort these issues, with a big risk of financial loss.

In short: not even remotely worth it.

    Don't be discouraged.

Getting an import permit is doable.
Reloading International https://reloadinginternational.com/i...nal-customers/ could most likely get you what you want "on behalf" as it were.

The issue will come when it get to NZ and NZPost the virtue signaling bunch of tossers refuse to deliver it either by post or courier.

I looked at the Boydstock website the other day, and it seems that New Zealand is no longer in the list of countries they are willing to export to.

I think this is due to USPS not shipping here anymore.
CameralandNY used to ship here too but stopped due to the freight company restriction.

Sounds like the biggest issue is the freight provider to ensure a smooth delivery. Anything that avoids NZpost by the sound.

I think the issue will be that a bullpup stock contains a trigger mechanism.

I think Nz post have stuffed up so many USA companies by not delivering to final Nz customers, but also warning every major post office big center in USA that they will no longer transport any gun relating items , that those distributions center are sending back items to their senders once they see the final destination (NZ).

The paperwork and cost isn't really a problem, places like Reloading International will happily ship for no additional costs, and no difficult paperwork to do.

It's the way US laws work and how they don't tell you how to comply with the law but will punish you for not complying.
